Rabbi Tovia Singer responds to a former Arab Muslim woman regarding her conversion to Conservative Judaism.
The “righteous of the nations” (chasidei-’ummot-ha`olam) actually refers to non-Jews who have rejected all false religions and adhere to the Noachide Laws alone, and who keep all of them in all their details or else who achieve perfect repentance.
o...
k...
1. Do not deny God.
2. Do not blaspheme God.
3. Do not murder.
4. Do not engage in illicit sexual relations.
5. Do not steal.
6. Do not eat from a live animal.
7. Establish courts/legal system to ensure obedience to the law.
Now; how does one..
DENY God? BLASPHENE God? Determine what ILLICIT is? Make #7 work?
AHHhhh...
The old Hand in the Cookie Jar scenario!
Ya wanna name names; or just use the big tar brush?
Easiest way to protect a child who doesn't know Hebrew is to teach them how to sing an ancient piyyut dealing with repentance.
I guess you don't
These have all been explicated in great detail by the legitimate religious authorities. That's why I said "in all their ramifications."
The *most* righteous Gentile is the one who saves the *physical* life of a Jew. The reward is the most highest share in the World to Come, only second to a Jew.
The World to Come is *here on earth.*
“Now; how does one..
DENY God? BLASPHENE God? Determine what ILLICIT is? Make #7 work?”
Don’t commit idolatry.
We have 613 commandments, and the majority of them deal with idolatry or idolatrous practices. Another commandment we have is to read Torah every seven years.
The issue with most Jews who grow up outside of big cities is they have limited access to kosher meat. What makes meat kosher? Which commandments are referenced?
“I guess you don’t”
I don’t pretend to do Hashem’s job. If you think Hashem cares about labels instead of what’s in your mind or heart, you don’t know Hashem.
What’s the punishment for violating Shabbat?
I tuned into this thread in order to find out whether the person’s Conservative conversion would be recognized by Orthodox rabbis. I certainly did NOT tune in to receive yet another tiresome dose of “Let’s preach to the Jews tuning into this thread and tell them about the glories of our religion and why they should convert”. Elsie, et al, I do not give a flying fig about how much you can cut and paste about Hebrew or Judaism. It proves nothing to me except that you are very insensitive and a boor. Your efforts, and those of daniel merely serve to further verify my opinion about such efforts. Must you try and hijack every thread to peddle your spiel? Or at least post in another color so I can ignore your posts and read the ones that hold some interest for me. Yours and those of similar ilk certainly do not.
It’s probably a good idea to caucus these threads in the future, though that may not stop them.
“Rather, differences between conversion protocols of the various Jewish movements makes the interpretive basis for them pertinent, and the beliefs they hold as coming from that. And when you repeatedly choose (owner closed one) to post provocative videos of a man who (on that basis) zealously attacks the Christian faith then you are making his interpretive veracity an issue, and thus countering material relating to that is fitting. As are asking you questions about what you else believe.”
The existence of Jews and our Torah isn’t an attack on anyone. If a non-Jew asks a rabbi about non-Jewish scriptures, the rabbi will usually reply with the following:
“Anything that agrees with the Torah — THE LAW — is fine. Anything that disagrees with the Torah — THE LAW — isn’t.”
This is the same exact foundation the United States uses for the US Constitution, if you’re confused by the very plain explanation.
The Torah is the first five books of Moses. THE DIVINE LAW!
Tread carefully.
All mainline Protestant, Catholic, and Mormon no longer evangelize to Jews. Heck, an Episcopalian helped me pick out kosher steaks the other day!
I think most don’t understand the different Orthodox movements.
Yes, because they are liberal. It is quite possible to oppose proselytization for fundamentalist religious reasons, but mainline versions of chrstianity have rejected proselytism for the same reason they have rejected the veracity of the Bible. I get not the slightest bit of satisfaction from people who don't proselytize because "all religions are equally true." They most plainly are not.
Regardless, I reiterate. This forum has rules about caucuses. I most strenuously suggest they be used in all future threads such as this.
Then the 7 laws are inadequate; since they are not self explanatory.
How does one do that?
sorry.
Then the 7 laws are inadequate; since they are not self explanatory.
Why? What makes you think the true religion is supposed to be self-explanatory? Is your version of chrstianity "self-explanatory?"
How to win friends and influence people.
