No one knows the day nor the hour. Including Nora Roth.
I’ve kinda thought about “around” 2017 for a couple of decades because of the “This generation shall not pass away until all these things take place” verse. Thing is, the bible makes it pretty clear that a generation is 70 years, and the begining of that 70 years is 1948 - when Israel became a nation and also took possession of the dead sea scrolls.
I wouldn’t bet the farm on it, but it is interesting. It causes me to notice things like the spat of major earthquakes we had a week or two ago. I don’t make a big deal about it because for me, EVERY day could be the day. I see every day as my first and last day. Each day is a brand new lifetime that the Lord has blessed me with. Hence my tag line.
I was always under the impression that a Jewish generation was 40 years.
Another way of taking that verse hinges around the translation of the word “generation”. One possible translation can also mean a tribe or nation. It’s not hard to read that bit as saying Israel will not be destroyed as a nation before Jesus returns.
But YMMV. I’m not saying that’s the correct reading, only mentioning it as a possibility.
“....when Israel became a nation and took possession of the Dead Sea Scrolls...”-—I have been thinking a lot about Israel today (it’s a lot easier and there’s a lot more breathing room during those blessed periods when Israel is not dominating the news)..and was intrigued by the phrase about the Dead Sea Scrolls...could you elucidate? Will check back, Mr. Douglas..thanks
Jesus may have been referring to the Transfiguration—
