I was always under the impression that a Jewish generation was 40 years.

Another way of taking that verse hinges around the translation of the word “generation”. One possible translation can also mean a tribe or nation. It’s not hard to read that bit as saying Israel will not be destroyed as a nation before Jesus returns.

But YMMV. I’m not saying that’s the correct reading, only mentioning it as a possibility.

I think the time “between” generations is 40 years, but the actual lifespan of a single generation is 70 years. It also calls it the life span of a king.

It was until about 1988, then the date-setters had to find another way to define it or they would have had to get new jobs :)
