In a Jewish context, this would have been a warning against the popular concept of rabbis and their role. The rabbi literally interpreted everything for his followers.
Does this carry over to clergy of what is supposedly an objectively doctrined Christian body? One might say a looser concept of father is intended than what the Lord warned against. As Paul was Timothy’s “father” in the gospel. Whether that looser concept is maintained in practice, is another question.
