God promised the Holy Land to the people of Israel, Pope Francis said during a public address at the Vatican in Rome on Wednesday in a speech about migration.
The people of Israel, who from Egypt, where they were enslaved, walked through the desert for forty years until they reached the land promised by God, he said.
Pope Francis spoke just before granting a brief audience to Israeli Deputy Minister for Regional Cooperation Ayoub Kara to thank him for his efforts on behalf of the Church and Christians in Israel.
Kara told reporters he felt that the pontiff was sending a direct message to UNESCO, whose World Heritage Committee approved a resolution that ignored Jewish ties to the Temple Mount.
When he spoke with Pope Francis he thanked him for his statement acknowledging Israels rights to the Holy Land. He added that there is no question that the resolution is harmful to Christians and the Scriptures because it distorts historical and theological facts.
Kara is scheduled to meet on Thursday with Vatican Secretary of State Pietro Cardinal Parolin.

Bayit Yehudi chairwoman Shuli Moalem-Refaeli said: Arabs in Israel and abroad have a glorious record of harming Jewish, Christian and Muslim holy sites. They also have an impressive record of rewriting history in a way that shames international institutions.
If Arabs want to disavow the Jewish connection to the Temple Mount and Israel, they should take it one step further, she added: If we were never here and Jesus was a Palestinian, then I suggest that UNESCO condemn the Palestinians for crucifying Jesus.
And the Temple does, too!
It's not like Jesus drove the money-changers out of the Wal-Mart.
When are the Egyptians going to pay reparations and take micro aggression classes to ride them of their brown guilt?
With this Pope, I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop.
The pope actually said something right. Wow- I am amazed.
This could take awhile....
Bravo Pope Francis!
In my Church we’ve already began having Mass on Saturday mornings and one Latin Mass per week is in the works.
Conclusion: the Church is returning to the salt and light she was meant to bestow upon the world.
The Pontiff might want to add that going against the will of the Almighty is not too smart.
The Israeli Catholic Arabs, who call themselves Palestinian Catholic Arabs, are the middle men. My old friend, a Baptist-turned-Episcopalian, and I went on a Steve Ray (former Evangelical Baptist minister-convert to Catholicism) tour of the Holy Land. It was FABULOUS. I placed my already-blessed rosary on the Tomb of Jesus! How blessed am I?!
We were only allowed to enter His tomb in twos and for only a few minutes.
One can SEE the cooperation of all three groups of Israelis. HAD to be done and it works. Folks aren't thrilled about it or with it but they do it to co-exist in a land they ALL love.
It works because their are Israeli soldiers EVERYWHERE. There are Israeli checkpoints every half hour of driving. Uzis keep the peace. Imagine Uzi-peace in the homeland of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
This one, perhaps?
[51] And behold the veil of the temple was rent in two from the top even to the bottom, and the earth quaked, and the rocks were rent. Matthew, Chapter 17
Since Jesus spoke Aramaic, perhaps the Mass SHOULD be in that language. It's dead as well.
Latin was the language of the conquerors, the ROMAN conquerors, wasn't it?
That’s the one.
Who sewed the veil back up?
I wish I had that. As I remember it, the Latin Mass Missal over the course of 52 weeks would essentially be your Catechism as well.
Religious Instructions would be unnecessary as all the youngsters needed to know could be had by attending Mass.
Genesis 12:7 "And the Lord appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land:"
Galatians 3:16 "The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. Scripture does not say and to seeds, meaning many people, but and to your seed, meaning one person, who is Christ."
And for your further consideration:
Galatians 3:28-29 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abrahams seed, and heirs according to the promise.
... and that’s not all He promised Israel!
“Neo-Aramaic languages are spoken today as a first language by many scattered and usually small and isolated communities of Christians, Jews, and Mandaeans of Western Asia,[9] most numerously by the Assyrian people in the form of Turoyo, Assyrian Neo-Aramaic and Chaldean Neo-Aramaic that have all retained use of the once dominant lingua franca despite subsequent language shifts experienced throughout the Middle East. The Aramaic languages are now considered endangered.[10]”

Holy Fathers come and go as is the way of all flesh.
There have been a number of far more Christian and favorable and nuanced statements (and also some less so), since that Papal quote you from over 100 years ago. Any reading of what the several Holy Fathers have said and done since that statement, including of course the official Vatican recognition of the legitimacy of the State of Israel, should serve to place things in a more accurate (factually and Biblically, imho) perspective.
God has given the Promised Land to the Jewish people as part of their eternal covenant.
We need to stop fighting against God’s expressed wishes, especially as He repeated them several times for us in His Holy Scripture. Rather, all believers Catholic, Protestant, and Jewish and Orthodox, need to get on board with, and support, God’s plan.
One clear series of Biblical references suffices (there are more, of course)...
” God said to Abram: “Go from your land ... to the land that I will show you.” (Genesis 12:1)
On that day, God made a covenant with Abram, saying: “To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt as far as the great river the Euphrates. The land of the Kenites, Kenizites, Kadmonites; the Chitties, Perizites, Refaim; the Emorites, Canaanites, Gigashites and Yevusites.” (Genesis 15:18-21)
“And I will give to you and to your descendants after you.... all the land of Canaan as an eternal possession (!!!!-emphasis added) and I will be a God to them.” (Genesis 17:8)
Vatican II. And given that most modernists will agree with its change of course nothing you (nor pre-Vatican II saintly popes) say will matter. It’s a whole new religion and most have bought into it hook, line and sinker.
