Alexandria, La., Sep 21, 2016 / 11:46 am (CNA/EWTN News).- The Vatican announced Wednesday that Pope Francis has appointed Bishop David Prescott Talley, currently auxiliary bishop of Atlanta and a former Baptist, to serve as the coadjutor bishop of the Diocese of Alexandria.
As coadjutor, Bishop Talley possesses the right of succession as head of the Diocese of Alexandria upon the resignation of its current ordinary, Bishop Ronald Herzog. Bishop Herzog will celebrate his 75th birthday 'mandatory retirement' age for bishops on April 22, 2017.
Archbishop Wilton Gregory of Atlanta said Sept. 21 that Bishop Talley is a servant minister of our Church, who is graced with extraordinary wisdom, patience, kindness and dedication.
The bishop, he said, developed these gifts as a priest and bishop here in the Archdiocese of Atlanta, where he always cared for our people as a true minister of mercy and kindness. Thus, he now begins this new appointment with exceptional credentials.
Serving as an auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Atlanta since 2012, Bishop Talley, 66, was the first native-born Georgian to serve the Archdiocese of Atlanta as a bishop.
Born in Columbus, Georgia, Sept. 11, 1950, he was raised as a Southern Baptist, but left that ecclesial community as a teenager over the issue of racial segregation, he said. He then joined the Catholic Church when he was 24, after meeting Catholics and reading the writings of Thomas Merton while he was studying at Auburn University.
He was ordained a priest of the Atlanta archdiocese June 3, 1989, and earned a doctorate in canon law from the Pontifical Gregorian University. He has served as pastor at three Atlanta area parishes, as the archdiocesan vocations director, as chancellor of the archdiocese, and as judicial vicar of the metropolitan tribunal. He was made a........

But if the marriage isn't valid, then the couple is living in sin, fornicating.
Therefore their children are not legitimate, being conceived outside of marriage.
So yes, it IS about the children, too.
But Catholics want their cake and to eat it too, so they invented annulment so's they can get a divorce and still remain *faithful* Catholics.
How accommodating of the church. No point in cutting off the gravy train by driving away a potential source of income.
Interesting how someone can be considered a *faithful Catholic* when they can't even be a faithful spouse.
Yeah, if you stray with the lust of the eyes you can abandon your children and your wife and Catholicism sanctions it.
Utter depravity.
If the marriage is invalid-not valid-then the children were born out of wedlock.
Retroactively. Like I said, what a horrible way to treat your family.
God can heal marriages.
Looks like penance to me.
Sometimes 30 Hail Marys and 50 Our Fathers and doing the rosary a dozen times or so just isn’t enough.
Or indulgences. Get out of purgatory early material.
Sadly
All true.
Also, I see a profession in the Diplomatic Corps for you. :o)
No answer just childish name calling and bathroom talk?
At least you didn’t post something sanctioning the anti-family practices of Catholicism letting the lust of the flesh determine the fate of wives and children.
No. Easier than that.
1 John 1:7-10 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
Romans 8:1-2 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
Colossians 1:13-14 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
Colossians 2:13-14 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.
Colossians 3:3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
We come to Christ ONCE, ask forgiveness and it's a done deal, all our sin, past, present, and future, gone for good, obliterated by God Himself when He nailed it to the cross, cancelling the record of our sin debt to Him.
He doesn't see it any more. He doesn't take it into account and now He is free to deal with us as if we had never sinned.
Sure it is.
Because we are trusting God and taking Him at His word that He will be faithful to His promises to us.
And God has already had mercy on our souls. That's why we became ex-Catholic.
There is no mark on our souls that God cannot erase with the blood of Jesus.
There are, by the way, NO "ex Catholics." You can't un-baptize yourself.
I call it ex Catholic. You call it whatever you like. I was baptized in the swimming pool at Bien Hoa Air Base, Republic of Vietnam. It was a hot day, so it was a nice dip in the pool. Yes, we actually had a swimming pool in Vietnam.
Mortal and venial sins are things of the past. No more Mass, no more Holy Communion...no more receiving the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus. And you don't consider THAT a MONUMENTAL loss.
ALL sins are mortal sins. I don't care a hill of beans about those other issues. It's not that other issues are not important. They are just infinitely less important than the ONLY issue that matters: Heaven or Hell. Turn or burn. 🔥
The Catholic Church existed for 1500 years until an excommunicated, defrocked Father Martin Luther decided that he knew more that the Church of our fathers. Poor Luther. Well, he DID get a Protestant denomination named after him. Good for him. I doubt he wanted that.
I don't care how long it has existed, but when I get to Heaven, I will thank Luther for what he did. I wonder if you will have a hard time loving me and Luther in Heaven, that is, if you plan on being there? The ONLY point you made, that I agree with, is that Luther did not want his name on a denomination.
P.S. I guess you are STILL "protesting,"--the Catholic Church again. You are a good heretic. Oops, that does sound harsh, even if it's true. Sorry for sounding harsh. May God have mercy on your soul.
Yes, I have been protesting the catholic church everyday since that day at Bogus Basin ski resort, Boise, Idaho. I doubt you would approve, but we have weekly Bible study, and we invite Catholics ONLY. You might be amazed how many want to know the truth. We are only too happy to give it to them.
One of us might be a heretic. I am TOTALLY SUPREMELY confident I will go to Heaven. I don't know if you have that confidence or not, but if you don't, that's on you. May God have mercy on you. I will pray for you. 🙏 Ultimately, you can believe whatever you like. I certainly do, but sooner or later, someone might be really shocked, but God knows who belongs to Him. Hope to see you in Heaven, and I am not being sarcastic. I honestly hope to see you there. The question is, do you hope to see me there? 👀✌️ Maybe not, huh?
Catholics have Bible Studies too.
Right now we have a couple of protestant people in it.
Turnabout, fair play, no?
Funny thing - My parish has Bible Study. We are regularly told from the pulpit to read and learn the Bible.
My daughter’s religion course in Catholic High School is going through the Bible, chapter by chapter.
Must be just mine to hear some people talk.

Yes, I certainly have no plans to stop, not now, not ever. By the way, I am not a Protestant. Hope to see you in Heaven too. 👀😇
We are still a bit shaken up, from the 6.3 earthquake that struck about 90 minutes ago. We are ok though, much to the delight of my Christian friends. 😊😀😆😄
We ain't wantin' to see you go be with Christ jes' yet.
LOL, Roger that. I am still looking for news on how much damage was done in Mati, where it struck. This one was a bit scary, but I was in the North Bay (Travis AFB, CA) for the 1989 Lima Prieta quake. That one was scary with a capital S.
