August 9, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) Italian Bishop Nunzio Galantino, a personal appointee of the pope and a prelate who has been extolled as the prototypical Pope Francis bishop, is coming under criticism after delivering a homily to young people at World Youth Day in which he rewrote the story of Gods destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.
While the clear meaning of the text is to emphasize Gods hatred of sin, in the bishops telling the message of the story is about Abrahams willingness to emphasize positive possibilities and "signs of hope" despite the misdeeds of the people of Sodom.
Its an interpretation that fits less with Catholic tradition than with the grievous admonition from the Extraordinary Synod on the Family that the Church should emphasize the positive aspects of mortally sinful lifestyles.
Here is what Bishop Galantino said, according to a translation provided by author and commentator Rod Dreher:
The intense dialogue between God and Abraham in the first reading tell us about prayer. And its about prayer that Jesus is asked in the Gospel. A prayer which is not an escape from troubles and responsibility, but a live experience made of listening and answering, through which God creates an authentic relationship and pushes us to be daring. As daring as Abrahams intercession prayer in favor of Sodom. A city upon which nobody would have bet a dime. His intercession prayer and his will to dare save Sodom. The city is saved because some righteous ones are there, even though a few of them. But the city is saved above all because Abraham, a man of prayer, is not a relentless accuser, he doesnt speak against but in favor. Abraham, man of prayer, doesnt point to the misdeeds, but he announces the possibility for something new. Abraham, man of prayer, announces and invites to look at the positive possibilities. Abraham, man of prayer, is a tireless searcher for sign of hopes to present to the Lord for Him to give them value.
Just a quick follow up. I have no intention, in the future, of using the terms I used in my original comment. (They were obviously not well received.) I intend to rely solely on the analogy, as light passes through a pane of glass, from now on. That seems by far the best description.
The Roman Catholic Leadership is only defending Sodomy because they continue to cause this abomination in their priestly ranks by not allowing priestly marriage.

He was promoting homosexual pedophilia, sodomy, - that's why he delivered the homily to young people at World Youth Day in which he rewrote the story of Gods destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. He didn't visit an old age home for the homily did he? RECRUIT, RECRUIT, RECRUIT!
In psychology, it is called grooming and normalization.
Abstinence doesn't cause priests to turn homo or homo rape little boys in their own community. That's insane.
Homosexual boy rapers are *attracted* to the priesthood because they have access to little boys, power over them and that community and they have a huge slush fund that often buys off the Truth.
Finally, invoking Abraham, the first Jew, to normalize sodomy among a group of children! CHILDREN!
He and the CC will occupy the hottest corner of Hell.
I admire your tenacity! You get hit in the face with cold hard facts and don’t even attempt to duck. Are you Democrat?
Once again, the Roman Catholic Leadership is defending Sodomy because it is rampant and uncontrollable in their ranks. From the edict of Pope Gregory VII in 1074, the Vicar of Christ said anyone to be ordained must first pledge celibacy. The RCC continues to this day to cause this abomination in their priestly ranks by not allowing priestly marriage. They could easily repeal the unnatural regulations against priestly marriage. For crying out loud...Peter, their first Pope, was Married! Virtually ALL French and German Roman Catholic Priests were MARRIED until 1074...
Who are you to tell the Catholic Church what disciplines need to be repealed?
Are you Bergoglio's nephew?
1. ΕΞΆΔΕΛΦΟΣ [EXÁDELFOS]
2. You can also write the chapter and verse where it appears in the New Testament.
Thanks.
Benedict had the chance to stop involuntary celibacy a few years ago and chose not to.
And he was the Pope; you are not one.
Yes, very insightful of you. Now, what part of Pedophile priests do you not understand?
I understand that pedophilia has nothing to do with a person’s marital status.
Apparently, you don’t understand that fact.
You are wrong. Pedophiles are predominantly unmarried.
I think the Bishop is mixing up Sodom and Nineveh. Sodom died unsaved despite having Abraham bargain for it and Angels visiting it because they refused to repent.
Nineveh was saved because despite being the recipient of the shortest, most begrudging, unhelpful sermon on record they repented.
Catholics (and Orthodox) don't believe the events described in the stories in Genesis actually happened. Of course they don't believe Sodom was destroyed. They probably don't believe it ever existed in the first place.
That’s not true. And if a pedophiliac gets married, does he no longer have the sickness.
Why is it so hard to believe when the Son of God got into the womb basically the same way? Or is that not true either?
Likewise, through His Divine power He passed through the tomb after His resurrection.
It was shrunk and is now kept in a bottle in the Vatican.
They have many satanic practices including worship and consumption of the dead's blood.
I will be only too happy to give you chapter and verse. First, I hope you will let me ask you a very sincere and honest question.
Namely, if you are familiar with Greek, why have you not looked this word up for yourself?
If my faith tradition required me to believe that a word meaning, ‘brothers,’ must, in such a crucial instance, be translated, ‘cousins,’ I’d do a little investigating. The first, most obvious question, is did Koine Greek have a word for, ‘cousin.’
When I pursued this question for myself, it took little more than five minutes—at most—to establish that not only did Koine Greek include such a word, but that it actually appears in the NT.
Bear in mind I’m no scholar. I took two years of Greek decades ago. But discovering that the Holy Spirit-inspired NT writers knew of and used the word for, ‘cousin,’ didn’t require extraordinary skills. A very few minutes of minimal sufficed.
Is it possible that no Catholic scholar has ever searched the NT for an occurance of the Greek word for ‘cousin,’? If not, why not? And if so, what explanation can there be for God, who created communication and Who is the greatest communicator of all, to sow confusion in lieu of clarity, by bypassing the normal word for, ‘cousin,’ in favor of a word meaning, ‘brother,’?
I believe the Holy Spirit-inspired Bible—every word of it. If God informed us in His inspired Word that the birth of Jesus was like light passing through a pane of glass—or whatever analogy would have sufficed in the first century—I’d be first in line to believe it.
However, all the Bible says is that when Mary’s term of pregnancy was complete , she, “gave birth.” That is what I believe happened:she gave birth. If there was anything about the birth beyond that unadorned fact that believers needed to know, God would have told us. But He simply revealed that Mary, “gave birth,” and that’s sufficient for me.
