The Pope spoke to reporters on his flight to Poland for World Youth Day
Pope Francis says the world is at war, but has stressed that its not a war of religions.
Francis spoke to reporters on the papal plane en route from Rome to Poland, where he began a five-day visit for World Youth Day.
Asked about the slaying of an 85-year-old priest in a Normandy church on Tuesday, Francis replied: the real word is war yes, its war. This holy priest died at the very moment he was offering a prayer for all the church.
He added: I only want to clarify, when I speak of war, I am really speaking of war a war of interests, for money, resources. I am not speaking of a war of religions, religions dont want war. The others want war.
Meanwhile, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican secretary of state, sent a message of condolence to Archbishop Dominique Lebrun of Rouen, Catholic News Service reports. The cardinal said Pope Francis was particularly upset that this act of violence took place in a church during Mass, the liturgical act that implores Gods peace for the world.
In the latest event of violence, the cardinal said, the Pope prayed God would inspire in all thoughts of reconciliation and brotherhood.
Chaldean Archbishop Bashar Warda of Irbil, Iraq, was another church leader in Krakow for World Youth Day. He told Catholic News Service the attack in France reminded him of the 2010 massacred in Baghdads Church of Our Lady of Deliverance when they held the people inside the church during Sunday evening Mass and killed two priests and then started killing the rest. A total of 48 people were killed and more than 100 were injured.
This is the sort of world we are living in, Archbishop....

Is it possible that he truly sees the confrontation with Islam solely in terms of a rich versus poor class struggle?
And who might "the others" be? The rich? Big business? Trump?
Just like Obama, Francis hates to call evil by its name.
Will somebody please hand this guy a history book?
Obviously he has also lost his mind. Time for him to step down.
This man is a fool.
He might reconsider his words if he were in the same spot the 84 year old French priest was yesterday, as his head was being cut off in front of the altar during mass.
Correct. Mohammedanism isn't a religion. It's an aggressive, expansionist, comprehensive, utterly totalitarian ideology that presumes to rule dictatorially all aspects of life.
Why? He won’t read it
Or alternatively, he’d rewrite it
I think he’s one of the most ill-educated men to ever become Pope. Or one of the stupidest. He apparently thinks that Big Banks cut the head off a priest in Rouen.
Definitely.
Yes, time to step down, and there is a perfectly capable former pope who could be brought back.
The Loser Cardinals really picked a Loser this time
There is one that does.
A Catholic priest is murdered in his cathedral by a Moslem nutball in the name of Allah, and this guy says it is not a “War of Religions?”
What is wrong with the papacy and the clowns who selected this guy?
In before the Pope Defender who admonishes us for our “hatred”, and is included here per protocol!
Papal idiot
"...who, being themselves but fallible and uninspired men, have assumed dominion over the faith of others, setting up their own opinions and modes of thinking as the only true and infallible, and as such endeavoring to impose them on others, hath established and maintained false religions over the greatest part of the world, and through all time;...that it is time enough for the rightful purposes of civil government, for its officers to interfere when principles break out into overt acts against peace and good order; and finally, that truth is great and will prevail if left to herself, that she is the proper and sufficient antagonist to error, and has nothing to fear from the conflict, unless by human interposition disarmed of her natural weapons, free argument and debate, errors ceasing to be dangerous when it is permitted freely to contradict them. Riiiggghhht. Ok, now the Pope is lying to me. Why not, everybody else seems to be lying these days.
Evidence of dementia. Needs to resign.
