We the People of the United States, in Order to . . . provide for the common defense . . . do ordain and establish this Constitution . . .

But, it isn’t in the reelection interest of politicians to risk angering a constituency.

Government is its own faction. Elections alone are at best insufficient, and at worst, pointless.

I hope you are wrong. I still put my hand on my heart at the pledge of allegiance because I still believe in the constitution. By maybe it is only spiritual.
