ISIS knifemen 'forced French priest to kneel and filmed themselves slitting his throat

The ISIS terrorists who carried out the France church attack forced a parish priest to kneel before filming themselves slitting his throat, it has emerged.

Father Jacques Hamel, 86, was made to get to his knees before he was brutally butchered at the church in Normandy today, says a nun who escaped the attack.

His two murderers captured the slaying on a mobile phone, according to Sister Danielle, who was one of several worshippers taken hostage during morning mass.

They then performed a 'sermon' around the altar in Arabic - as armed cops rushed to the scene and terrified members of the congregation fled for their lives.

Before his death, Father Hamel courageously tried to defend his parishioners, says the distraught nun, who raised the alarm after fleeing the church.

"They forced him to kneel and he tried to defend himself and that is how the drama started," she told RMC radio this afternoon.

Prayers for the repose of the soul of Father Hamel.

You posted this same comment on another thread.

“Old nuns, and women and an old priest”

I heard Venerable Bishop Fulton Sheen say once that the church was held together by little old ladies at morning Mass.
He likened them to the “the ten good people” who Abraham offered when he bargained with God for the saving of the city.
And “old priest” could very easily be a seasoned and wise and faithful priest standing before God for the people he ministers to.

So we have “10 (faithful) people” and some faithful nuns, a venerable “old priest” there to offer Mass for them...faithfully executing the duties of his consecrated life.

And you find that worthy of some sort of veiled ridicule?

There are about 120 people every day at Mass in my parish. They are of varying ages.
During the school year, 4 days a week the school children are there.

The prayers of “old people” are just as valuable as those of the middle age and the young.
They are the ones who know the best way to start the mornings off in their retirement years. God bless them.

Except that his comment didn’t have anything to do with prayer.

It was in response as to why nobody did anything.

And I think his response was reasonable.

The little Catholic church in our town has daily mass attenders, basically the same people every day, a handful of them, and the average age is past retirement, except for a very few high, holy days.

Except that in our town, if there started to be threats of violence in any churches, I’d fully expect someone to be packing. Even here in Upstate NY.

Or more likely, especially here in Upstate NY.

Thank you, that was my point.

Our parish school has Mass 3 times a week, but I wouldn’t expect the kids (or their teachers or moms) to be any more able to defend anyone than the sweet old folks who make up the rest of the normal daily attendance would. Maybe if the coach was there.

Our liberal bishop, in his wisdom, has declared the whole campus to be a gun-free sitting duck zone, so our chances are slim should the same fate befall us. Don’t know whether there are any among the staff who would secretly carry anyway.

My family hails from Upstate NY. Love it there, miss being able to visit. NW Arkansas is a lot like it, believe it or not. Beautiful, hilly, agricultural and friendly. Except the economy is on the upswing here. :/

Pal, you completely took me the wrong way. There was no ridicule or veiled anything. The only reason I posted is because I kept seeing posts about they were wimps and someone should have done something about what happened somehow.

He hasn’t said anything yet, but in the past he has tried to make nice with them.

NYS’s downside is the weather and the government, not in that order.

I know.

That’s why I’m wondering.

He’s being so obama about it.

The silence is deafening.

Way to support you fellow clergy there, Francis.

PS
All too often I have to go back and re-read #22 of the Ignatian Exercises....and remind myself to put it into practice.

No worries. This was a retired priest holding daily Mass at 9:00 am, probably for other retired religious and older folks.

Also, one of the attackers was wearing a fake explosive belt, the other was carrying a fake bomb. It would be hard for cops much less young hale parishioners to rush in and do something. They were only shot down exciting the church.

Feel free to take it and post it everywhere - I got it from someone else. Most importantly, it’s the truth.

We will see when he either speaks out/acts out or does nothing like the rest of the world leadership.
This is very unsettling.
