A senior adviser to Pope Francis has said he is worried about the anti-Muslim rhetoric of presumptive US Republican Party candidate Donald Trump.
In an interview with RTÉ News, Cardinal Seán OMalley also warned against scapegoating Muslims following this week's atrocity in Nice and other terrorist attacks on the west.
Speaking in Knock, Co Mayo, the cardinal recalled that the Irish were once blamed for America's ills.
And he urged Catholics to heed the advice of Pope Francis to strengthen dialogue with Muslims.
"Its very easy to stir up resentment and to blame groups of people.
"I think immigration is such an important issue, requires a lot of reflection. It requires people with wisdom to come together and talk about what is best for the common good."
He continued: "All of us need just immigration laws and a way of dealing with immigration that will not dehumanise people".

Why hasn’t Vatican City torn down its wall and welcomed 10,000 Muslim refugees? They have plenty of funds to do that. After they do that, THEN they can lecture us. Hypocrites.
Catholics are good people.
The Catholic RELIGION, however, is the Whore of Babylon.
Eff the Cardinal too.
Of course the Irish don't care what you call ua because we're not pussies.
Oh but all the Christians being murdered by the Muslims is ok. The Christians being mad about it is the problem.
Then join up with the Muslims already since you care about them more and GET OUT of our Church!
Is the Pope Catholic?
I see a big thermostat.....
And a hand turning the temperature up.
Muslims may come from hot countries but they may be feeling a different kind of heat, my suggestion to them is book your flight out of America soon before they get all booked up.
I hoped it wasn't, thinking it was some other idiot, but there it is -- yes, I'm in Boston, God help me!
“The Catholic RELIGION, however, is the Whore of Babylon.”
Laz, gonna has to ask you to ‘splain that one.
;^)
The majority of Muslims are NOT Arab; they are Asian.
Indonesia:
Population: 204,847,000
Percent Muslim: 87.2%

FYI only.
Since Catholicism is the BASIS of all other Christian denominations and was the only Christian faith around for 1541 years, I would wonder why he would say that.
Exception: Mormonism. They are out in left field, imho.
Since this country, USA, and many countries of the world rely quite heavily on petroleum and natural gas, I doubt very much whether Muslim-bashing will do anyone any good.
Besides, MOST of the Muslim-Islam haters don't realize that only 25% of all Muslims are Arabs. Also I DOUBT whether any of those Muslim/Islam haters have visited Muslim countries. Indonesia is the LARGEST Muslim country in the world. Why not visit there to see how they live and work?
Also, the KSA has another 200 years supply of both petroleum and natural gas. Why make enemies of the nipple from which so many Americans and Westerners suck?
“Its very easy to stir up resentment and to blame groups of people.
Maybe the Imams should stop doing it...
Laz is the life of the party here at FR & usually goes for the yuks. Sometimes, though...
I’m Catholic, I have studied Evangelicalism & understand its critiques of Rome. Pope Francis is a confirmed nutcake, but who elected him? The College of Cardinals who should know a thing or two.
But...”Whore of Babylon”? The prophesied identity of that figure in Revelation has been debated for centuries & I don’t think a broad theological consensus as yet exists.
I for one don’t see the Vatican as the Antichrist’s capitol like some. Too easy, like Godfather III. Is there intrigue & conspiracy within its walls? The Vatican was a political capital until 150 years ago, so obviously, yes.
BTW, the Mormons’ holy books call the Catholic Church “the great & abominable church” in addition to WOB. That’s what got me studying the cult of Joseph Smith. The LDS church could give lessons to Rome in amassing fortunes & mind control.
Pope Francis doesn’t tell anyone what to think though he has made some pretty wacky suggestions. Catholic teachings & beliefs aren’t governed by one individual at the top.
Catholics keep saying that, but it's not true and they know it's not true. That they would engage in such dishonesty in order to make all chrstianity a choice between "authentic" Catholicism and "newbie" Protestantism doesn't say a lot for them.
First there were all the historical "heresies"--each one of which probably thought they were the "orthodox." The fact that they disappeared may discredit their claims of orthodoxy, but they were all forms of chrstianity, and there were hundreds of them.
Even not counting the long-gone heresies of history, there are still four separate ancient liturgical traditions, each of which claims to be the "one true original" church: Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, the non-Chalcaedonian monophysites or miaphysites, and the non-Ephesians or Nestorians. Each one of these traditions has existed since the shattering (at various times) of the apostolic line, each one has "apostolic succession," and each one sees itself as the "true" church from which all the others broke off.
Let's please knock off the "there were only Catholics until Protestantism" rhetoric, okay? Honestly, I don't understand why Eastern Orthodox FReepers put up with it.
To be Irish is to be a member of an ethnic group. To be Muslim is to profess a violent supremacist creed. The cardinal’s remarks are the same that we should not blame the Nazi’s for WWII.
It is interesting the way socialists approach theological concepts for when it comes to Islam they are not the only ones who refuse to approach the issue. That even includes leading Christian clergy including Pope Francis.
Followers of Mohammed not only claim, but truly believe that God has authorized them to kill those who refuse to submit to their version of Gods will.
That is a basic tenet of that religion. A claim which goes unchallanged which makes it a theocratic creed advocating a form of government that is to replace the existing one.
While it is understandable for atheists which most socialists are, not to approach that claim on a theological basis. But believing by bombing and killing those who believe in it will end its practice, which will not. Islam as construed with its portrayal of a mercyless evil deity approving using deception and deceit is an abomination which must be discredited and condemed.
And that can only be done by attacking its assertions and tenets. Certainly not by ignoring and deying they do not exist. .
It is bewildering why many Christian clergy concerned about quote, political correctness, unquote, refuse to address what an insult to God islam is and worse yet are unable to condem then convince and convert its advocates and adhearants they are followers of an evil creed .
The Koran which was not given to Mohammed by God but by some angel .Demanding enforcement of sharia law which draws heavily from the Torah. It is a pseudo religious concoction using monotheistic selected texts, taken and misconstrued from the old (bible) and new testaments.
Both of which cite the Almighty has granted free will to accept or obey his laws and God is the final judge not man: Sodom and Gormora ,and Let he who is without sin cast the stone, are outstanding examples from both books. One deals with sin and Gods decision toward a group the other to an individual, neither is left to man.
Yet followers of Mohammed under the severest of penalties are forbidden to read either which would refute that assertion in a creed which institutionalizes disgusting arab tribal views, mores, observances, and customs. Claiming adhearants are authorized by our Creator to demand submission to it or suffer an ignominious death administered by followers of Islam simply because they answer the call to prayer 5 times a day.

Are you now the "religion" police? Why don't YOU knock off telling me what to believe. Even the sign of the Cross is the same but for the side of its beginning.
The Catholic Church allows all Orthodox to receive Holy Communion in Catholic Churches. It's only a matter of time before the reverse is true.
Though I doubt that either of us will be alive then.
Honestly, I don't know where you get your ideas.
But you have the right to express those ideas, no matter what I think of them...honestly.
I still say vote this coming November because it is time to take America back.
