I would like to make, as a parish priest in trenches, a few remarks concerning the Popes recent statements in Rome at a gathering of priests and seminarians. Others have admirably remarked on his troubling remarks on marriage and cohabitation. I will not add to those. But I would like to focus on two other reported remarks the Pope made about priests to the effect that some of us are cruel, are putting our noses into peoples moral life and possibly that he even called some of us animals.
And while most of these remarks, recorded and widely reported, were not included, or were adjusted in the Vatican transcript, they cannot simply be unsaid. And even the clarifications remain troubling.
I write these remarks simply as a parish priest. I am not a canonist and certainly not a reporter. I react simply as a priest to what has been reported all week, and write here the reaction of one man and priestme.
First, it is reported that the Pope said pastors should not be putting our noses into the moral life of other people.
Permit me to state my utter bewilderment at such a notion. As a priest, and especially as a confessor and spiritual director this is my duty! It is true that I am not to unnecessarily pry into the private lives of parishioners. But surely there is a requirement that as a confessor and a pastor I have some sense of the moral life of those to whom I minister.
Consider a medical analogy. Suppose a patient comes to a doctor with breathing difficulties and chest pains. Surely the doctor will inquire as to the persons lifestyle. Does he smoke? Did he ever smoke? What sort of food is being consumed? Does he exercise? What is.......

Is the Pope Catholic?
Oh, boy. This is new
This Pope should replace the current Pope.
What’s the point in noting or arguing the Popes positions. It’s already recognized that he is a marxist and is doing to the Catholic Church what Obama has done for America.
The Pope should give all the catholic money put on a sack-cloth robe and go begging in Jerusalem with a wooden bowl.
Just this priests perspective. But I can assure you, dear reader, that the impact hits priests hard, and I cannot deny a certain weariness and discouragement at this point. I realize that such remarks of the Pope are not doctrinal, but just try and tell that to gleeful dissenters and the morally confused or misled in this world.
Let us pray for our Holy Father and for the universal Church.
And all the people said, "Amen"! Viva Msgr. Charles Pope.
Its the age old hypocrisy.
If you say the law, or Jesus, or whatever standard condemns those who apply the teachings of the law, or Jesus, or whatever which condemns... It means that you yourself are what you condemn.
Its a vicious cycle that has no meaning or authority by nature. One would think any educated man who has a good grasp of the need for humility would know not to fall into that trap.
Monsignor Pope Ping!
Lots of good comments at the Register website.
This pope is a Marxist. That’s incompatible with Catholic doctrine.
Look for Father Pope to lose his job and be put on ice somewhere, never to be heard from again. The harm Francis is doing to the Catholic Church can’t be repaired. He’s leading good people straight to hell. I never thought I’d live to see the day that a pope acted him. He acts like he hates the church and all faithful Catholics.
It might be time to start taping this Pope’s mouth when he is out in public. I understand completely Monsignor Pope’s frustration with Francis.
I had a hearing once where the judge implied that my client was a pig. I’m sure that the reasons were complicated but that night my client killed himself. I went in to see that judge and chewed him out and told him that I hoped I never heard of him calling a person in his courtroom an animal again. Later I had another occasion to chew out that judge and after that, I think he started to modify his behavior. My point is, hurrah for Msgr. Pope!!!
Are you sure about that?
No.
If only the entire audience had walked out.
The only people Bergoglio hates more than Catholics is priests.
He acts more a like a protestant than Catholic. Every word he says is supposed to be in line with the Catechism of the Catholic Church. It’s not. Not by a long-shot. He belittles faithful Catholics, and has a love affair with cafeteria Catholics. He’s your typical Jesuit liberal priest. There was a reason why no Jesuit has ever been chosen to lead the Church. The vast majority belong to the leftist arm of the Church and Francis certainly falls into that category.
Bergoglio is not Catholic, therefore he is not the pope.
CUM EX APOSTOLATUS OFFICIO - APOSTOLIC CONSTITUTION OF HIS HOLINESS POPE PAUL IV, 15TH FEBUARY 1559 - (ROMAN BULLARIUM VOL. IV. SEC. I, PP. 354-357)
6. In addition, [by this Our Constitution, which is to remain valid in perpetuity We enact, determine, decree and define:-]
that if ever at any time it shall appear that any Bishop, even if he be acting as an Archbishop, Patriarch or Primate; or any Cardinal of the aforesaid Roman Church, or, as has already been mentioned, any legate, or even the Roman Pontiff, prior to his promotion or his elevation as Cardinal or Roman Pontiff, has deviated from the Catholic Faith or fallen into some heresy:
(i) the promotion or elevation, even if it shall have been uncontested and by the unanimous assent of all the Cardinals, shall be null, void and worthless;
When will these folks learn? This is NOT about "ad-hoc, off the cuff" commenting. We ALL know that if Pius X gave impromptu off-the-cuff comments they would be 100% Catholic. That;s because Pius X was Catholic and spoke and taught as a true Catholic pope. The issue isn't Francis' off the cuff comments. Its the fact that he isn't Catholic and therefore doesn't speak nor teach like a Catholic pope...off the cuff or not.
All part of the agenda, especially the deniability canard, to get them where they want to go - and to take everyone else with them - namely HELL.
