I was raised Catholic, like 12 years Catholic school and currently attend a Catholic Church, but this Pope and the Church's lack of response has destroyed it now. And after brushing up on history I find the idea of papal infallibility ridiculous, insulting to God. What's a good way to understand the different doctrines so I can move on? I don't have an understanding of them. I'm leaning Protestant as it seems Martin Luther was right on.
Just need productive civil information for my next step.
Thanks.
I would first recommend that you read Romans. Doctrine is important but knowing your bible is most important, as it corrects, disciplines and teaches us truth.
Also all doctrine must align with scripture.
The Pope needs a refresher course
I left the Catholic church 30 years ago and had been a happy Methodist. Lately they are going leftist as well......
Ask God to reveal the truth to you and Read the Gospel of John.
A pope is only infallible when he says he is infallible. This pope hasn’t said he was infallible. Most popes do nothing infallible. Signing off on Vatican II was infallible in the 1960s. Declaring the assumption of Mary in the 1950s was infallible.
So get some perspective on things the pope says. They are NOT infallible pronouncements.
If you are going to embark on the great [P or p] protestant quest, I’d like to offer some cautions. ALL churches sin in lesser or greater degrees. You’re never going to find one whose every leader teaches everything right this side of glory.
Jesus, who lives today and not just in the gospel stories, is difficult to understand sometimes. The very radical nature of His teaching can leave even experienced theologians in the dust. It can look pretty outrageous at times. But at the same time His kindness and gentleness is astounding.
Look for Jesus wherever you go, no matter what the shingle says over the church door where you find yourself worshiping. And don’t be surprised if He takes you beyond where the popular theologians do.
Matthew 16:16-18 and John 6 are two of the clearest indications in the bible about what denomination to belong to.
One would think that a pope ought to be aware of this if applicable, and couch everything that wasn’t intended to be infallible as an “I think” or “I believe” statement.
The problem would come when the pope tries to play both sides against the middle, so to speak.
The best bible exposition you will ever hear!

First talk to your priest. The Church has answers for all your questions - you’re not the only one to hit this rock in the road. Only then, after you know what the Catholic response is to your concerns, should you consider leaving the Church.
I’m not trying to get you to stay. But if you were raised in the Church, you’re going to have to do your homework before you’ll ever feel right about your decision to leave. You’re dealing with the fire of the soul - give it the respect it requires. Remember what they say about playing with fire.
On the other hand, you have to live with yourself and God. At least be able to say you’ve properly and thoroughly studied the problem. This advice will save you MUCH hardship, no matter what you end up doing.
One more thought, read CS Lewis, Mere Christianity, great stuff.
How much time have you put into materials (books, magazine articles, website and radio programs) from Catholic Answers?
If your answer is “little” or “none”, then you effectively have no idea of what you’re talking about at this point.

Well, first you must understand the concept of Infallibility.
It ONLY pertains to “matters of faith and morals” proclaimed “from the Chair of Peter”.
It doesn’t pertain to mumblings about global warming.
Next, you have to understand the irony of your inquiry.
Your asking for an alternate infallible source....
Whether it be Luther or your own “guided interpretation”.

Let us start on our point of agreement: the current Pope is an angry, socialist, “liberation theology” idiot. Now, let us talk history. The Catholic Church has had many crazy Popes - sometimes it had two at the same time. One even dug up his predecessor’s corpse, dressed it up and put it on trial. Francis isn’t the first fool to be Pope; likely he won’t be the last. Now: Papal Infallibility wasn’t defined until the First Vatican Council in the 1870s. The council met in response / reaction to the liberal socialist revolutions sweeping across Europe. Secondly; declaring something as Church dogma under the cover of infallibility has happened exactly one, repeat ONE, time. It proclaimed that Mary was assumed into Heaven body and soul. HERE’S THE KICKER: it was declared such only AFTER polling all the bishops around the world and receiving a unanimous response that the faithful already believed that to be true. Encyclicals are not infallible pronouncements.
You will read many of your own questions and answers. May God bless you on your journey of faith.
Ok so walk me through this.
You are going to Mass now, right? Are you receiving the Holy Eucharist? Are you saying “Amen” when priest offers it to you? Indicating you believe it’s the Body of Christ?
If so, why would you want to go a church where they do not claim to even offer you the Body of Christ because the Pope is a bit of a dummy?
If you don’t believe in the validity of Holy Mass, and you think a “worship service” is an acceptable substitute, the Pope’s inanities are the least of your problems.
If you *do* believe in its validity, then to become Protestant against your own conscience is to commit a mortal sin and invite eternal damnation. Eastern Orthodoxy would make much more sense.
I have a feeling this is much deeper than the Pope’s blatherings, and there is some acute crisis in your spiritual life that needs addressing pronto.
