The seven Sacraments are outward signs, instituted by Christ to give Grace

Let's see the very words of Christ doing what you have just claimed.

...instituted by Christ...

John 6:28-29

Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?”

Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”

You may want to read it in context.....

I don't know why they didn't want us to read the Bible.

All cults are like this.

Mere humans are so inept that they MUST 'understand' the bible by what the Organization or Man (or Woman) says about it.

Care to join me?

I'd MUCH rather have you explain (show from the Roman book) just WHY you are so ARROGANT in your sin of Assurance presumption!

At the end of the day,
In ol' Hockey Boy's way;
We all would just love to be told...

The reason he has,
for all his pizzazz;
of assurance, of which he's so bold.

I have thus sadly dropped you from my ping list as you represent an opposite detrimental extreme.

Oh, Dan, I'm going to be SO-O-O-O-O disappointed at not surviving your cut list! And I just longed to be in the coterie of those who gather about you, who don't dare to offend your sense of their fitness to receive your graciousness! (/sarc, squared)

OK, Dan under scrutiny, not one of your objections will survive, point by point, although they make a nice rotund sound as you assemble them.

(1) Where do you see Simon "Peter" bar Jonah, anywhere called a ποιμήν, a shepherd = a pastor?

(2) What do you call a man, who either himself and/or his wife and/or children in any detail fail the NT qualifications set forth for the office of either a/the ἐπίσκοπος superintendent; or a διάκονος attendant or server?

(3) What do you call a man in the local assembly who is older than most, but is neither overseer, teacher, nor trustee, yet one whose overall spirituality, wisdom, and reliability makes him a person whose advice other members of the church are accustomed to seek and value?

(4) Are you one of these in your local church?

(5) If not, why do you give advice here to those who do not seek yours?

(6) And, if you are, why do you give advice here to those who do not seek yours?

(Speaking as a FRiend . . .)

I would prefer the word "confident," as opposed to arrogant. The sin of presumption, otherwise known as assurance of salvation, is the only sin that I feel comfortable committing. All other sins make me feel bad. I don't like to commit them. Presumption, however, is a sin I don't mind committing.
I will even use the phrase that cult members sometimes use. It's in the Bible, look it up. 😀😆😃😄 I've heard that one a time or two

LOL, MFM. I kind of figured that would be the response you would have to that. It was the same thought I had. 😇

And another thing, Mr Elsmeister, are you trying to provoke me into conjuring up a Limerick? You know I am a conjurer, but I am sure that is better than being a necromancer. You wouldn't know anyone who specializes in necromancy would you? 😄😆😜🙈🙊🙉👍

For a long time, I felt like a failure, until a group of men on a retreat talked about the lack of faith in their children. Despite the differences in our beliefs, I am happy that both of you have found a path to Jesus that is most meaningful to you. The best thing we can do for our adult children is to always show our faith in God and pray that they will find their way back to Jesus.

Peace,
Rich

Well, I kind of also felt like a bit of a failure too. I warned him before he started College at CSUS, not to let those godless, liberal professors have any influence on him. Well, guess what? They had an influence on him anyway. All I can do, is think of the verse, train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it. That is what I am counting on.

‘to obtain salvation’ ... such a subtle way to promote a works based religion. BUT that is not what Jesus taught.

FRIENDS do not go out of their way to insult each other. Your sarcastic insult to Daniel and those of us who appreciate the work he has put into organizing such insights as he has been given, well, it speaks for you in writing on the Internet.

I think the thing is they seem (from their posts) to have no understanding of eternity other than "just like time, only longer." Thus trying to explain the Mass to them is like trying to explain a sphere to a Flatlander. (If you recall the book, when a sphere passes though Flatland, all they perceive is a flat circle that grows bigger and then smaller.) This of course means that they necessarily have a straitened, shrunken conception of Divinity. Their God is so small that they think our veneration of Mary is illegitimate latria. They live in a much smaller reality than we do.

A limerick a day,
Is surely the way;
to conjure up humor or wit.

But many a time,
you just CAN’T make it rhyme;
and you end up throwing a fit.
