Bishop Thomas J. Tobin of Rhode Island has a message for Catholic voters: never ever vote for any candidate who supports abortion. With Hillary Clinton as the likely presidential nominee for the Democratic Party, Bishop Tobins words make it clear that Catholic voters cant vote for her for president.
Bishop Tobin made the remarks in an April 21 post on Facebook:
Catholics: Vote Pro-Life
As the primary election draws near in Rhode Island, I encourage faithful Catholics to vote pro-life and never to vote for any candidate, of any party, who supports abortion.
And dont be fooled by those who say they arent pro-abortion, but are just pro-choice. Its a smoke screen for what they really believe, but are afraid to admit. After all, what kind of choice are they promoting? Theyre not talking about choosing a favorite ice cream flavor, are they? And its not about so-called reproductive freedom or womens health care either. Clearly, politicians who support abortion are encouraging a choice that ends the life of an innocent human being and ultimately harms the mother, personally and spiritually!
As Pope Francis has reminded us: It is not progressive to try to resolve problems by eliminating human life. (EG #214)
SIGN THE PLEDGE! We Oppose Hillary Clinton!
During an interview on The View recently Hillary Clinton said an unborn child just hours before delivery should have no Constitutional rights. Her comments came just days after Clinton said unborn children simply do not have any Constitutional rights, which would include the right to life.
SIGN THE PLEDGE: I Pledge to Vote for a Pro-Life Candidate for President
In February, Clinton defended partial-birth abortions: My husband vetoed a very restrictive legislation on late-term abortions, and he vetoed it at an event in the White House where we invited a lot of women who had faced this very difficult decision, that ought to be made based on their own conscience, their family, their faith, in consultation with doctors. Those stories left a searing impression on me, she continued.
Clinton has said more taxpayer money needs to go to the Planned Parenthood abortion business and Clinton demonstrated her unyielding commitment to abortion and the Planned Parenthood abortion business, accepting their endorsement during a pro-abortion rally saying she would be the abortion business president.
I will always defend Planned Parenthood and I will say consistently and proudly, Planned Parenthood should be funded, supported and protected, not undermined, misrepresented and demonized, Clinton said. As your president, I will always have your back.
At a speech to the Women in the World Conference in April 2015, Hillary Clinton argued, Far too many women are denied access to reproductive health care (aka. abortion) and safe childbirth, and laws dont count for much if theyre not enforced, In order to expand worldwide access to abortion, she suggested that deep-seated cultural codes, religious beliefs and structural biases have to be changed.
In May 2015, the U.S. House passed the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act to protect unborn babies 20 weeks and older from excruciating late abortions. In addition to a statement slamming House lawmakers for advancing the bill, Clinton tweeted, When it comes to womens health, there are two kinds of experts: women and their doctors. True 40+ years ago, true today.
At a presidential forum at Drake University, Clinton called ending the life of another human being a fundamental human right.
The first order of business for Clinton and her friends at the abortion company is to force Americans to pay for abortions with their tax dollars by attempting to overturn the Hyde Amendment, which has protected Americans from funding most all abortions since the late 1970s. Upheld by the Supreme Court, the Hyde Amendment is now a target of abortion advocates who have moved from pro-choice to pro-abortion forcing Americans not only to accept unlimited abortions before birth but to pay for them.
Stunningly refreshing, a Catholic prelate who actually espouses Catholic doctrine. Whoda thunk it
But what if they switch after winning office - the Paul Ryan Gambit?
It would be interesting to know what percentage of the Catholic bishops voted for Obama in 2012. I suspect it was well over 50%. (Of course Romney’s record wasn’t so good but at least he was claiming to be pro-life in 2012.)
It's breathtaking that 40+ years later to use her words that we are even having this discussion.
Abortion was sold to the American public in 1973 with the dodge that "it's only first trimester".
That was crap and they knew it - Doe V. Bolton was argued the same day. But nobody talked about that.
So...really? The House has to pass a bill to prevent doctors from dismembering babies by saying well, we don't want to do this when they can feel pain?
So if we give Grandma a sedative, it's OK to knife her?
One of the Democrats’ most devoted voting bases is the “Catholic” base.
They are Democrats first and Catholics second, putting the Kennedys, Pelosi, the LA crooked pols, the Chicago crooked pols, etc. etc. in office decade after decade. They have the blood of 60 million babies on their hands, and when they die, the Catholic Church buries them with all the royal trappings of the church. So of course, these disgusting hypocrites know that the bishops don’t mean a word they say about abortion.
As Jesus said, “By their fruits, you shall know them.” We can definitely judge them and their church.
Not this Catholic and her family. If you want to see how real, non-famous Catholics live and vote, come on over to Steubenville.
Then I guess I won’t be voting.
I’m sorry to the Cruz supporters here but I’m just not convinced he’s truly pro-life. I need more proof of what’s he’s done while in the senate. And Trump, well, the rape exception in my mind makes him pro-choice. Anyone who supports abortion for any reason is pro choice. I just don’t know what to do.
I’m in PA and my primary is today. But I’ve been so bothered by this that I’m confused and haven’t voted yet today.
About one in four Americans identifies himself as “Catholic”. This means nothing. In 2016, white, non-hispanic Catholics and Asian Catholics who actually go to church every Sunday are overwhelmingly Republican, while black Catholics and white, Hispanic Catholics are at least large minority Republican.
I know fiftysomething Americans who haven't been to church, other than to attend weddings and funerals, since high school, who also say they are agnostic, yet check the “Catholic” box on surveys. I am sick of having people like this thrown up to me as “Catholic voters”.
So don’t vote Democrat for you are thus supporting abortion.
Proof for your citation, please.
Unfortunately, a largely Catholic intellectual movement did not gain a majority following among their co-religionists.
Trump is against abortion. Why don’t you vote for him?
My dilemma is that he says he’s pro life but supports the rape exception.
Reality is that there’s no perfect candidate I guess.
Considered Bernie?
He's the usual preference for self centered snowflakes unable to find a candidate - or anyone - morally superior to themselves.
Funny but I’m not a Marxist. Nor do I think I’m. Morally superior to anyone else. I have my values and priorities and try to vote accordingly.
Inflexibility is not a value. It’s a liability. Staying at home singing hymns and congratulating yourself on your theological purity won’t save one unborn child. Luke 14:5
Don’t let them get you down. I was accused of being a Bernie supporter a few weeks ago because I said something negative, but true, about Dr. Hahn’s wife ; )
Yes, so many of these battles end in disappointment. This one will too. Is it trite to say, select the least disappointing candidate? Because that will always be a better option than making no selection at all.
