People I watch closely in the Middle East
Jordan’s King, who is brave.
Egypt’s Sisi who is brave.
I was in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre exactly two years ago, on Holy Saturday, the anniversary of the day when the tomb would have been occupied. The place was crowded with visitors and I was told that the church was under the jurisdiction of three different Christian denominations. I was struck that there were no collection boxes of any sort (a rarity in any church I have ever been in) and my, perhaps cynical, guess was that they didn’t ask for money because each denomination was unwilling to share with the other two.
