BREAKING: FROM THE BECKET FUND FOR RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Moments ago, the U.S. Supreme Court heard the case of the Little Sisters of the Poor, a 175-year-old religious order of women who care for the elderly poor. The Little Sisters have asked the Supreme Court for protection from a government mandate that is forcing them to provide services against their beliefs.

Little Sister gives landmark statement following Supreme Court hearing

The following statement can be attributed to Sister Loraine Marie Maguire, Mother Provincial for the Little Sisters of the Poor:

LITTLE SISTERS POOR

“Hello, my name is Sister Loraine Marie Clare. The Lord has given me a beautiful calling; that of being a Little Sister of the Poor.

We Little Sisters of the Poor are a group of women who make religious vows to God. We dedicate ourselves to serving the elderly poor regardless of race or religion, offering them a home where they are welcomed as Christ, cared for as family and accompanied with dignity until God calls them to Himself. We have done this for more than 175 years.

But now we find ourselves in a situation where the government is requiring us to include services in our religious health care plan that violate some of our deepest held religious beliefs as Little Sisters.

We don’t understand why the government is doing this when there is an easy solution that doesn’t involve us—it can provide these services on the exchanges. It’s also hard to understand why the government is doing this when 1/3 of all Americans aren’t even covered by this mandate, and large corporations like Exxon, Visa, and Pepsi are fully exempt, yet the government threatens us with fines of 70 million dollars per year if we don’t comply.

It is a privilege for us to care for the most vulnerable members of our society; serving them, comforting them, being a loving and healing presence in their lives; just being a “Little Sister to them” is our joy. All we ask, is that we can continue to do this work.

After hearing the argument today, we are hopeful for a positive outcome. We will continue to trust God because–as our Mother Foundress St. Jeanne Jugan said: “God will help us, the work is His”.

Thank you and God bless.”

I hope and pray the Lord will be with members of the Supreme Court on this decision, abortion is a sin, in a lot of Religions, and one of Our Ten Commandments, “Thou Shalt Not Kill”...so here is my prayer going up for the Little Sisters of the Poor...Amen.

If the Democrats get their way, doctors who refuse to perform abortions will be sent to prison.

The fact that this is before the SC is proof positive that our Constitutional Republic is dead. We have an anti religious fascist government.

It would be really nice occasionally to see news stories that didn’t label (dangerous) abortion inducing drugs as “contraceptives”. When are we going to stop letting the left define the terms of every damn debate. We lose before we start.

I wonder what would happen of the LSOTP simply said no. Regardless of what the SC says. Simply refuse. Would the feds come in with armed LE and shut them down? And if they refused to close down? Would they drag them off in cuffs? Time to find out.

When I was young, Catholic nuns in 3rd world countries went to jail to refuse the mandates of an authoritarian government. Why are they not willing to do that in the US?

Oh, the Little Sisters are not going to comply. Even if they lose all possible appeals. They will either go to prison or leave the country. They have made it clear they will not violate God’s Law, no matter what.

[ The best solution.....Overturn Roe vs Wade.

I would rather make the only form of later term abortion legal be that the after delivery of the baby, the doctor and all staff leave the room, the mother has to decide to either strangle the living new born baby to death with her own hands until it is dead (within a few hours of birth), or she can give it up for adoption (via a clearly labeled drop box on the other side of the room for the baby) , or raise it as her own.

Abortion turns doctors who are supposed to adhere to an oath to do no harm into white coat assassins for the cause of convenience for their patient...

I would also rather have abortion pills be over the counter for this very reason, if they are prescription you are forcing doctors into harming another person (that being the child). Doctors don’t prescribe cigarettes which can kill you, why should they prescribe abortion inducing drugs? Make it just like buying cigarettes, you can buy a rat poisons with out a prescription too.

I know this position is shocking and controversial here, but the act of killing the child should be on the person wanting the child dead, the mother only, not the doctor. Even if it is legal, this is the ONLY way for it to ACTUALLY be “RARE”.

Unlike the lie the left sold us by making doctors into white coated assassins with Roe v. Wade. saying that it would be “rare” if this were the case, it was not.

If you want it to be truly RARE, you have to put the full consequences of snuffing out another life fully 100% into the hands of the mother, literally.

Having a white-coat assassin do it only makes it convenient for the mother to commit an act of murder via proxy.

Either that or ban it (which i am fine with too) , which brings in how do you enforce an abortion ban without trampling on rights and privacy? How do you punish a murdering mother who has already sinned against her own body? You can punish the back alley abortionists, sure, but the mother has already condemned her own soul to hell.

Chevron, Pepsi, and Visa got exemptions. But apparently these sisters are too dangerous for the government.

That might be the sisters' major gift to humanities : Illustrate as clearly as any idiot could understand, that out oppressive muslin regime would rather haul into jail helpless Nuns helping the poor, rather than apply existing constitutional laws to criminal invaders introducing rape, murder, burglaries, violations of the welfare laws, illegal intrusions into our citizens' voting laws, and general Mexification of third world irresponsible culture among the most egregiously non productive and indolent people in the Western hemisphere.

I stand with the nuns!

These women are heroes.

As for our so-called President, the man whose administration has done things like this for almost eight years . . . "may his pernicious soul rot half a grain a day."

The Black church (which supports enthusiastically his every action and decision) is not a church at all. It's a left wing ethnic club and should be sued for its misuse of the Bible and Southern dialect.

What makes you believe that they are no longer willing to be arrested and jailed?

That they are first exhausting the theoretical legal remedies of our free Representative Republic does not in any way suggest any unwillingness to embrace the final option.

I am confident that they in fact will call the totalitarian bluff.

Good luck to the totalitarian criminals.

Ignored, and unstated, is the underlying ongoing practice of forcing all of us working taxpayers to pay for the abominable practice via out taxes collected (forcibly) for the "health, safety and welfare" of all its citizens.

If we can't be forced by law to condone the practice, how can we be forced to fund it?
