What Wouldn't Jesus Do? ("Vote for Trump"/N.Y. Times op-ed)
The New York Times ^ | 3/1/16 | Peter Wehner

Posted on 03/01/2016 10:48:16 AM PST by Faith Presses On

AMONG the most inexplicable developments in this bizarre political year is that Donald Trump is the candidate of choice of many evangelical Christians.

Mr. Trump won a plurality of evangelical votes in each of the last three Republican contests, in New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada. He won the glowing endorsement of Jerry Falwell Jr., the president of Liberty University, who has called him “one of the greatest visionaries of our time.” Last week, Pat Robertson, the founder and chairman of the Christian Broadcasting Network, told Mr. Trump during an interview, “You inspire us all.”

If this embrace strikes you as discordant, it should. This visionary and inspiring man humiliated his first wife by conducting a very public affair, chronically bullies and demeans people, and says he has never asked God for forgiveness. His name is emblazoned on a casino that features a strip club; he has discussed anal sex on the air with Howard Stern...He once supported partial-birth abortion and to this day praises Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider. He is a narcissist appealing to people whose faith declares that pride goes before a fall.

Part of the explanation is that many evangelicals feel increasingly powerless, beaten down, aggrieved and under attack. A sense of ressentiment, or a “narrative of injury,” is leading them to look for scapegoats to explain their growing impotence. People filled with anger and grievances are easily exploited...

Mr. Trump’s evangelical supporters don’t care about his agenda; they are utterly captivated by his persona. They view him as the strongest, most dominant, most assertive political figure they have ever seen. In an odd bow to Nietzschean ethics, they respect and applaud his Will to Power...

For the record, Cruz is my first choice among the Presidential candidates, but I support a lot of what Trump says and would vote for him. I also believe, however, that he is filling a void that is being left by other leaders, including many ministers of the past, and by the Church and the country itself.

Jesus? He’d probably take one look at what has been going on in Washington DC and get after them like the bunch of money-changers and crooks that they are.

Hey Peter, Jesus DID NOT participate in politics & He was not a Pharisee, He endorsed no man as leader, ONLY His Father in heaven He said we ought to give our allegiance to and obey.

By the way, the biggest shareholder in the NYT is none other than Carlos Slim, the richest man in Mexico. Of course I’m sure that means nothing.

This Times Op-Ed is funny; i.e. an opinion piece by a Jewish owned newspaper as to how Jesus would deal with Trump.

Yep, Jesus would go after them all with a knotted rope.

Well, of course, Jesus would be sending buses to Mexico to pick up those that want to come into the United States without following the set immigration process.

And Jesus would place those new impoverished immigrants in the homes of the NYT editors, all of whom have houses much larger than they need and make salaries in the six figures and above.

Oh, yeah, I’m going to take theological advice from the New York Times. Just as soon as I take food recommendations from my dog. I call tell you what I don’t believe: I don’t believe the NYT would publish anything with an ounce of Christian content.

Since when does the New York Times care about Jesus?

If Pete Wehner is the Christian he professes, he should meditate on what he said; if the NYT would publish it, it almost certainly reeks of Satan.

Trump is the only one who has said anything about muslims chopping of Christians’ heads.

Simple question. When is the NYTimes going to go on record advising everyone how horrible it is and how morally wrong it is to cast a vote for Hillary? It is common knowledge that Hillary sought to destroy other women who tried to defend themselves after her husband assaulted them. It is common knowledge and established fact that Hillary is a serial liar based upon what is known about Benghazi. It is established fact that Hillary illegally set up a private server and threatened America and American lives by emailing classified documents. In fact, one story claims that as a result of Hillary’s classified emails being intercepted that a CIA agent was outed and killed.

When will the NYTimes warn Americans of the moral hazard of supporting Hillary? Day after day I see the NYTimes warn people, out of a sense of disingenuous civic duty, about why people shouldn’t vote for whatever Republican. When will they consider Hillary? Or is this all a partisan scam by the corrupt homosexual activists at the NYTimes?
