12,000 from each of the original tribes of Israel. I think it’s symbolic not literal but that’s just me.

“Preterism holds that the contents of Revelation constitute a prophecy of events that were fulfilled in the 1st century.”

Ok, I’ll bite. Who were the participants in the war of Armageddon since it must have occurred around AD 100?

Thank you! Our Bible Study of Revelation just reached this point two weeks ago, and we agreed - that is precisely what the scripture says. But more importantly, it is what the first century Christians understood when they heard these words for the first time. They were facing total retribution, and certainly were not thinking 2000 years into the future! If that were the case, Revelaton would be of no use to them.

Question everything including this theology. John MacArthur says when in doubt interpret literally. I do not believe they are from the past but sealed for a purpose in the tribulation. You are in more danger by attempting to see symbols I think.

The number 1,000 is symbolic of FULLNESS.

I’ve never heard that before. Please explain.

Sorry, I didn’t read this part ............ “So 12 times” 12 times 1,000 equals 144,000.

I still don’t know why 1000 is symbolic. I am a Christian but I try to be objective. I don’t believe there is enough to support your reasoning for the meaning of the 144,000.

Lately I am wondering if they are the Hebrew people who gain admission before Christ’s sacrifice - emphasis is placed on their works and merit - as opposed to grace.
But then, I no longer read Revelation as a straight shot through end time but as parables.

Depends on your hermeneutic. I’m really liking the symbolic parallelism interpretation. It is symbolic to represent everyone that will be numbered as God’s people.

I must respectfully disagree with you.

The 144,000 Israelites that are sealed in chapter 7 are 12,000 from each tribe of Israel. These will be protected during the tribulation times from the trumpet and bowl judgments. They will survive through this time of judgment here on the earth. It does not say that they are all male virgins, it just says 12,000 from each tribe. It is likely that they are men and women of Israel. They are seen on earth.

The 144,000 from chapter 14 are different. It plainly states the these 144,000 are chosen from among men (from every nation) and are male, and virgins. It says that they follow the Lamb (Jesus) wherever He goes, and that they sing a song that only they know. These are redeemed from among men as first fruits to God. They are seen in Heaven.

These two groups are clearly different.

If you read the description, it appears to be a people who did not fail Christ, once they became married to Him.

It’s a different number than the multitude that cannot be counted that follows after, which is everybody else.

.
There is absolutely nothing bizarre about the Revelation.

And almost nothing symbolic.

It mostly is a description of Yeshua destroying Satan’s grip on the Earth. We are currently at about the end of the fifth seal.

This article is ultra preterist garbage at best.

The tribulation of the saints is at the very last 3.5 years of Satan’s domination of earthly governments. It is definitely still future, but not by very much.

“They were the ones coming out of the Great Tribulation. “

No, this is NOT the 144,000. Revelation 7 has two different and distinct groups. The 144,000 are clearly chosen among Israel. The passage goes into detail, repeating over and over how each of twelve represented tribes have 12,000 sealed respectively.

The ones coming out of the Great Tribulation were uncountable and from every nation. Big difference.

“John, the author of Revelation, said he was in the tribulation AS HE WAS WRITING (Revelation 1:9)”

No he didn’t.

Revelation 1:9
I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.

John was a partaker of tribulation, not THE Tribulation. THE Tribulation, the Great One, had not yet come. It was to come on the whole world.

Revelation 3:10
Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

Even many Christians misunderstand Revelation.

So what is the MESSAGE of Revelation?

Everyone likes to focus on details first. But the details without the major message is worth nothing.

What is the message? Repent and turn to God before it is too late. Now take a look at the details..............
