Defiant Catholic Laity against "same-sex unions", despite little support from the Vatican
Rotate Caeli ^ | 1/30/16 | New Catholic

The "Cirinna Bill" being debated in the Italian Parliament to allow "same-sex unions" in that central nation of Catholicism managed to bring Catholics from all over Italy to Rome this Saturday.

The image from the Circo Massimo is unmistakable: on this "Family Day", a huge multitude of Italian families (including many friends of this blog) gathered to protest the government's support of the counternatural bill.

Cardinal Bagnasco, the President of the Italian Bishops' Conference, despite the clear lack of support from Pope Francis, kept his support for the event. Some Cardinals, including Cardinal Sarah, showed their support. But the Pope himself kept his silence, resented by millions of Italian Catholics who simply cannot understand why a Pontiff who talks about everything chose not to explicitly support the event (earlier in the day, the first Jubilee general audience attracted a much smaller number of people to St. Peter's square). Here is our support to good Italian Catholics: go on, march on, even if the Vatican is not clear, God is, and He will reward your efforts!

P.S. An influential Italian Catholic leader present at the massive rally tells us the mood: "An ecstatic and defiant crowd at #familyday2016! However, never since the Rennissance have Italian Catholics despised a Pope more than Pope Francis. Those present here are the backbone of Italian Catholicism, and they cannot believe the Pope abandoned them to the secular lions in Parliament, abandoned the few faithful bishops and did not even say a single word at his Jubilee General Audience today. Yet, they are not angry at Francis, it's more a mix of deep disdain and a strong sentiment of Fremdscham, as the Germans say."

I assume this is the Pontiff welcoming some degenerates of one sort or another?

I left the Church in 1999 after 43 years. I have never looked back. Perhaps I should say the the Church left me.

The Church is one thing - the Pope is another thing.

One can leave the Pope - so to speak - without leaving the Church.

No Pope, no matter how heretical, would make me leave the Sacraments, the Doctrine, the true teachings, on and on.

Did you have any Catholic instruction before you decided to leave ? And what did you *leave* ?!

Good post. I haven’t left either - through think or thin. 8 years of Catholic instruction left a lasting legacy, I guess.

Bagnasco did the right thing and has been supporting the opposition to civil unions for some time but he felt Francis' wrath as a result.

Yeah, well "Kenny Loggins" and "This Is It" to you.

Everyone who says the Church left them is just making an excuse for not standing and fighting. Fine by me, just don't expect others to share that rationalization or delusion.

Life is easier one way than another, so slide on down the easy route.

Hey, but Francis does throw a bone every once in awhile when he talks up marriage between a man and a wife.

I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if this pope approves gay marriage.

Not homo marriage, but homo civil unions, yes.

It looks a bit different to some of people who are actually there:

Pope Francis enters debate over Italy's same-sex unions Bill

From the article:

"By and large, Pope Francis has steered well clear of Italian politics during his almost three years in office. On one recent occasion when he entered the fray, however, his words appeared to have had a dramatic impact. That incident came when, at the end of his papal visit to the United States in September, he insisted categorically, almost angrily, that he had not invited the [pro-gay] then mayor of Rome, Ignazio Marino, to Philadelphia for World Family Day.

Within a month of that emphatic, public papal put-down, Mr Marino was out of office with many commentators arguing that Francis's words had been the final nail in the mayor's coffin. Significantly, Mr Marino had hardly endeared himself to the pope by instituting Rome city council-registered gay marriages (subsequently annulled by the city prefect)."

On the rally against gay civil unions:

ITALY: Catholic Church & Anti-Gay Groups Stage Massive Rally Against Civil Unions Bill [VIDEO]

And from other close observers:

Thousands Rally Against Gay Unions in Rome
Quote from this article:

"A week ago Pope Francis issued a strong reminder of the church's opposition to gay marriage, saying that the traditional family was 'the family God wants.' Being a cardinal in Buenos Aires, Jorge Bergoglio staunchly opposed the marriage equality, calling it the 'work of the devil'."

Here's the report from veteran journalist Edward Pentin, whom so many of us value for his excellent pro-life and pro-family reporting:

'We Are a Million' Marchers for Marriage in Rome

From the article:

"Many praised Pope Francis' lead in promoting marriage and the family. Most recently, the Holy Father insisted that the 'complementarity of man and woman' is essential to marriage and that gender ideology is 'demonic.' He has compared it to the educational policies of Hitler and said it fails to recognized 'the order of creation.'"

It's always good to look closer into what the Pope actually said.

Like the tagline quote below.

Once again, you will not acknowledge Pope Francis' tacit approval of civil gay unions while giving lip service to sacramental marriage.

Where was the Bishop of Rome yesterday, during Family Day in Rome? Did Francis address the crowds either in person, or by television or radio? It's his own backyard; yet, he can fly to D.C. and New York to promote such "Catholic" issues like "global warming" and socialism.

Where was Bergoglio, before and after Ireland's referendum on homo marriage?
