Trump on God: 'I don't like to have to ask for forgiveness'

After months of reflection, Donald Trump says he still doesn't regret his decision not to ask God for forgiveness for his sins.

In an interview on Sunday with CNN, the Republican presidential frontrunner said that he does not regret never asking God for forgiveness, partially because he says he doesn't have much to apologize for.

"I have great relationship with God. I have great relationship with the Evangelicals," Trump said in the interview before pivoting to his poll numbers among Evangelical voters.

"I like to be good. I don't like to have to ask for forgiveness. And I am good. I don't do a lot of things that are bad. I try to do nothing that is bad."

It’s not over the top. If I knew of something, or suspected something, I’d say it.

He seems to be a fine, upstanding man who loves his family and doesn’t drink or do drugs or commit crimes or anything like that.

He doesn’t strike me as a bad man, or an evil man.

And yes, I know he holds himself in high regard, and that is fine, and I don’t think he believes he’s on the same level as Jesus.

He just doesn’t appear as someone who frightens me.

We need a strong leader willing to stand up for American business and drop bombs on the bad guys.

Yeah... Glenn Frey.

Dirty Laundry is by Don Henley, who was the drummer for the Eagles, and rumor was he died, but it was just a rumor.

All I can say is that at this point I’m all for him. To me Cruz is an ideologue, and a nonstarter. So let’s hope.

I don’t like to ask for forgiveness either. from God or any one else. That is human nature. Doesn’t mean I don’t do it

Who cares, at least he’s not being a hypocrite about it. We’re not looking to elect a pope.

I’m too young to remember when Carter was elected, but I understand that he “preached” while campaigning and was very holier-than-thou. How did that work out?

I plan on voting for Cruz but I don’t care about Trump’s faith, or lack of it. It’s not for us to judge.

BTW, Business Insider leans left.

If Trump puts his faith in Jesus, he knows the punishment for any wrong has already been taken for him by his death on the cross. Forgiveness is by faith and a relationship with God. Obviously, Trump has a relationship with God.

Pride goeth before the fall. All have sinned and fallen short......Find the Way, Donnie.

I don't believe that Trump has ever been quoted as claiming that he is "sinless."

Not good. I have been a Christian since childhood, and every time I think I am oh, so good, the Lord invariably shows me otherwise...I am very good about fooling myself about my goodness, but I understand that until eternity kicks in and the Lord makes the final transformation in me, I am a daily sinner, no matter how hard I try not to be. A forgiven sinner, but a sinner. Pride is a deadly thing. I hope Donald wakes up here.

Are you trying to say that this doesn’t bother you? Pride is a sin and this reeks of pride.

Not the perfect answer, but you know it is an honest answer. Trump may not realize it, but his goodness comes from the Holy Spirit’s presence within him, moving him to do good. What he needs to do is give thanks to God for this guidance.

>>”I like to be good. I don’t like to have to ask for forgiveness. And I am good. I don’t do a lot of things that are bad. I try to do nothing that is bad.”

In my experience, I’ve found that Roman Catholics believe that you need to confess your sins to priest regularly and that any unconfessed sins must be absolved by a priest prior to your death. Methodists fear that one can lose their salvation, so regular confession is essential to retain salvation. Baptists believe that they can say a quick prayer and they are one saved, always saved. Presbyterians believe that God chooses you, gives you grace, and that all of your sins past and future are forgiven and forgotten “as far as the east is from the west”.

So, the bottom line here is that CNN is trying to force Trump to make a statement on faith that they can use to drive a wedge between him and some group of Christians.

We should consider that different Christians believe different things and that it is God’s free gift of Grace that saves us. Do you give a gift and then take it back because the recipient did not act the way you expected? That would be petty, wouldn’t it? Why does anything think that God is that petty?

You and me both brother.

I do it though because that what my Bible tells me to do.

Praise God that he sent his son so we can ask for forgiveness.

Trump doesn’t seem to understand Christianity much.

He loves you back far more than our understanding can even comprehend.

I really hope and pray that America can be great again. I personally don’t think Trump will be good for the US. There are no easy answers except one. Americans must turn their hearts back to God and his word and then and only then will America be blessed again and prosper.

He has never once said anything about being a constitutionalist that I can recall.

Perhaps someone can correct me?
