Do you think Fulton Sheen would have given Bowie a Catholic funeral if his family asked for it?

While I do at whiles waste my time with idle thoughts, the juxtaposition of Fulton Sheen and David Bowie is a bit over the top.

You seem to invest yourself with some knowledge of the Divine.

I kinda think not.

No accusing finger would be leveled at a divorce or one living in adultery;

Yet the Church practices the patently absurd and offensive doctrine of ANNULMENT, which is identical in practice with divorce. Anyone of simple and honest perception might reject the entire establishment of the Church for the travesty which it manifestly is, on this basis.

What I am saying is he will not do this.

Should have seen the lives of a lot of classical musicians.... And not a few men of the cloth...

I am on Free Republic, and donated today too, because I LOVE FREEDOM and that is why I fight for a constitutional republic that we are supposed to have. I am ok with whatever music you want to listen to. Please afford others the same.

This is a dang short life here. We can’t enjoy anything if we have to have purity checkers go through and approve it all first.

Bowie was awesome despite any personal shortcomings. I don’t feel he was more of a sinner than the rest of us.

OK, I guess I get your point, as far as I comprehend these matters.

In this age of grand illusion

You walked into my life

Out of my dreams

I don't need another change

Still you forced away

Into my scheme of things

You say we're growing,

Growing heart and soul

In this age of grand illusion

You walked into my life

Out of my dreams

Sweet name, you're born once again for me

Sweet name, you're born once again for me

Oh sweet name, I call you again

You're born once again for me

Just because I believe don't mean I don't think as well

Don't have to question everything

In heaven or hell

Lord, I kneel and offer you

My word on a wing

And I'm trying hard to fit

Among your scheme of things

It's safer than a strange land

But I still care for myself

And I don't stand in my own light

Lord, lord, my prayer flies

Like a word on a wing

My prayer flies

Like a word on a wing

Does my prayer fit in

With your scheme of things?

In this age of grand illusion

You walked into my life

Out of my dreams

Sweet name, you're born once again for me

Just as long as I can see, I'll never stop this vision flowing

I look twice and you're still flowing

Just as long as I can walk

I'll walk beside you, I'm alive in you

Sweet name, you're born once again for me

And I'm ready to shape the scheme of things

Ooh, ready to shape

By that godless heathen, David Bowie.

Amen, brother! As I’ve tried to indicate in previous posts, his music and lyrics have been a real influence on me.

David Bowie defined a style of music for a couple of generations. He was KISS long before Gene Simmons thought about makeup and funny costumes. He was Yes before they contemplated clocks and roundabouts. He recorded hits with Mick Jagger and Queen.

If you recall the song Under Pressure, that was largely influenced by David Bowie.

You may not like what he did, or you may like some of it and think the rest of it is too far out. I didn’t care for everything he recorded, but he gets more credit for originality than I can give to almost anyone in the music business. Whether I loved or hated what he did, it was never stale.

Ping to my post #87.

Bowie performs live a rendition of Word on a Wing, which is all about praying to God.

It's as sweet of a gospel song as you'll hear anywhere, including church.

How tragic it is when a fallen humanso called Christian being gives themselves totally over to the base and lawless practices of this little fallen world and sell their souls seeking to find satisfaction and contentment by living a godless and lawless lifecrapping on the graves of the dead..

He's God's business now - while we can assume certain things about his salvation, we cannot know his heart or what may have transpired in the period leading up to his death.

Tend to the log in your own eye - then presume to act on behalf of God - He doesn't need our help; OMNISCIENT and OMNIPOTENT entities stand on their own.

Nice shark jumping.

Comparison to a mass murderer makes you look completely ridiculous. Not that your earlier comments weren’t ridiculous as well, given that what you appear to know about Bowie is no more current than about 1971.

Way to stay current?

To ignore the facts is to lie.

<><><><

I think it shows character to admit that you are lying, by ignoring the facts of his life after his marriage to Iman.

Never got into his Glam R&R with his eye shadow, makeup, high heels, stockings and tight pants bellowing out degenerative, with an effeminate style, music that could only be called decadent. The world has changed and honors this guy and it’s not for the better.

The article was written not to trash Bowie, but to serve as a warning to others not to waste their lives.
