David Bowie defined a style of music for a couple of generations. He was KISS long before Gene Simmons thought about makeup and funny costumes. He was Yes before they contemplated clocks and roundabouts. He recorded hits with Mick Jagger and Queen.

If you recall the song Under Pressure, that was largely influenced by David Bowie.

You may not like what he did, or you may like some of it and think the rest of it is too far out. I didn’t care for everything he recorded, but he gets more credit for originality than I can give to almost anyone in the music business. Whether I loved or hated what he did, it was never stale.

Bowie performs live a rendition of Word on a Wing, which is all about praying to God.

It's as sweet of a gospel song as you'll hear anywhere, including church.
