"God is Father and Mother":Pope calls for "revolution of tenderness" and criticizes his own Church.
Rorate Caeli ^ | 12/03/15 | Augustinus

Posted on 12/03/2015 10:16:09 AM PST by ebb tide

ZENIT has published an English translation of Pope Francis' interview with "Credere", the official magazine of the Jubilee of Mercy. We are posting the most important sections here; emphases ours. At the end of this article is our commentary on the extreme danger posed to the Catholic faith by the Pope's assertion that God is "Father and Mother". And then there is the, by now, depressingly familiar line about how the Church "excludes people" and is too legalistic, following a "hard line", "stressing only the moral rules."

The Italian text of the interview was published on the Vatican website yesterday, December 2, 2015. We repeat: the original of this interview is on the VATICAN WEBSITE.

1.2 billion denominations under one roof.

Whatever any one Catholic wants to believe seems to be fine with the hierarchy.

Every man his own pope.

We can’t even get a straight answer out of Catholics on whether Vatican 2 is really doctrine or policy. If nobody knows, then anything is up for grabs.

I don't disagree.

This is clearly in the territory of heresy, New Age version.
Now I am convinced. B16 was forced out. Cardinal Burke getting the bum rush only reinforced that. At the Holy See, the fish is rotting from the head. To my Catholic friends, I say do not look to this man for the way, look only to Jesus.

Yes, and he says Christians and the church should not seek power. That’s good, but I believe his moves are designed to make the church more relevant, as he views relevance, and, hence, more powerful. I believe he sees the church shrinking and hopes to attract more young believers.

I'm not disagreeing with you. You won't find me arguing about any of that.

The language of the Sacred Scriptures and the Liturgy of the Church very clearly recognizes a divinely-revealed gender identity (not sex but "gender" identity) of Our Lord God the Father, Our Lord God the Son, and Our Lord God the Holy Spirit.

As for Jesus Christ, he has a biological sex --- unambiguously male --- as well.

I am absolutely sure that these particular, gendered words are revealed, and are providential.

I don’t remember seeing God call Himself “mother” once in the Bible. Does the Pope think that He knows God’s nature better than God???

The imagery of a mother is ascribed to God and Jesus in the scriptures. The explicit role of God as a father permeates scripture. I notice Pope Francis refered to God as "Father and Mother," not as "Mother" alone, and not denying "God the Father" which I'm certain he professes. He expressly pointed to the scripture in Isaiah emphasizing "God's maternal dimension." If one denies these scriptures are inspired of the Holy Spirit they have a grave problem, so to speak.

Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens. Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the Lord our God, until that he have mercy upon us. Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt. Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.

But Zion said, The Lord hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me. Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.

For thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream: then shall ye suck, ye shall be borne upon her sides, and be dandled upon her knees. As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem. And when ye see this, your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall flourish like an herb: and the hand of the Lord shall be known toward his servants, and his indignation toward his enemies.

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!

Psalms, Catholic chapter one hundred twenty three, in its entirety,
Isaiah, Catholic chapter forty nine, Protestant verses fourteen to sixteen,
Isaiah, Catholic chapter sixty six, Protestant verses twelve to fourteen,
Luke, Catholic chapter thirteen, Protestant verse thirty four,
as authorized, but not authored, by King James
bold emphasis mine

I love Our Lady under her title of Immaculate Conception and her other titles as well. I’;m just reading St. Maximilian Kolbe on the relationship between Blessed Mary and the Holy Spirit. Very profound.

Sr. Faustina's diary entry from 12/17/36, birthday of Pope Francis:

"I have offered this day for priests. I have suffered more today than ever before, both interiorly and exteriorly. I did not know it was possible to suffer so much in one day. I tried to make a Holy Hour, in the course of which my spirit had a taste of the bitterness of the Garden of Gethsemane. I am fighting alone, supported by His arm, against all the difficulties that face me like unassailable walls. But I trust in the power of His name and I fear nothing."

“If you believe in an afterlife,
is your dead-and-gone-to-heaven form fully human? Or is it a spiritual thing?”

No, we will receive “glorified bodies” that are incorruptible and free of infirmity:

“20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:

21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.” Philippians 3:20-21

“if Jesus was human/divine while he walked the earth, did he remain fully human after the resurrection?”

He appears to have remained in his earthly form at least until he was assumed to heaven, because the disciples saw his wounds. However, we know that when he returns to earth, it will be in his glorified form (Mark 13:26,1 John 3:2), and we got a preview of that form during the Transfiguration:

“17 And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into a high mountain apart:

2 and he was transfigured before them; and his face did shine as the sun, and his garments became white as the light.” Matthew 17:1-2

This glorified form also seems to be depicted in the description of the “rider on a white horse” from Revelation 19:11-16:

“11 Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. 13 He is clothed in a robe dipped in[a] blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. 14 And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. 15 From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.”

Is the Pope Catholic?

Not by objective standards.

Thank you for your response.

So Jesus was, but is not now, simultaneously fully God and fully man.

Hence it is not heresy to say so.

Did you ever notice how the entire concept of the Blessed Trinity is a mystery, not meant for human understanding?

That’s how many of the heresies started was from man attempting to make the mysteries of God explainable.

Uh...no....was AND “is”.

Did you miss the point of the Ascension of Christ?

It was His Body and Soul which ascended into Heaven, as well as His Divinity.

I thought that was his new, glorified body, which doesn’t sound too human.

Well, that probably depends on your denomination whether they define that as heresy or not, so I don’t know about that.

Strictly speaking of Jesus’ physical form though, He doesn’t inhabit a frail, mortal human body for eternity. The Bible is clear enough about that.
