We become perfect in God’s eyes through faith in Christ and being crucified in Him, having Christ’s righteousness credited to our account.

I accept that some people are righteous at the time of their death, like Abraham and like the Good Thief, and some people aren’t.

OK. So how are they made righteous?

What’s weird about the whole purgatory thing is that it’s like Catholics WANT to burn in purgatory for their sins rather than trust Christ to save them.

Like they’d rather do that themselves than accept the offer of the free gift of eternal life, no strings attached, that Christ is offering to mankind.

The Law has never been done away with.

The thing that’s the big stumbling block for Catholics is that when someone is born again, they are new creatures in Christ and are no longer under the law, but under grace.

We don’t HAVE to obey the Law. But we do WANT to.

Did you copy and paste that comment from somewhere else?

Where is the attribution?

Catholics don’t have to worry about divorce with their church sanctioned divorce packages.

I am Catholic. I don't "interpret".

On the contrary, EVERYONE interprets everything they read, see, or hear.

ALL the time.

So true -- kinda like an aversion to praying directly to God Almighty through the name of His Son and instead praying to people that can't hear them -- Mary, saints, etc.

It's kinda like "Opposite George" on Seinfeld... except the RC opposite fails. Every time.

:D

So the jesus of catholiciism is not rude, did not tell the Rabbis of His day that they were whited sepulchers? You really ought to give more thought to your posts before you spittle them up.

Don't forget "vipers"... not really polite either.

Oooh... and the scourging of the Temple.... SO rude.

You quote the passage of walking after the Spirit, but do you actually know what that means, in terms of it being a work of God not a man’s efforts to be ‘good enough’? Perhaps you would explain for me, in your words, what walking after the spirit is and how it comes about, from a before state of being a sinful man then born from above?

What's weird about the whole purgatory thing is that it's like Catholics WANT to burn in purgatory for their sins rather than trust Christ to save them.

As I have frequently said, there is the US version of Catholicism, and that of the rest of the world.

Your quote is fine by itself but the fallacy is interpretation by omission: you refuse to acknowledge the verses who speak of each man being purified by fire yet saved. In other words there is a description of purgatory in front of you so you quote the preceding verses as if they negate the description.

The problem you have, as all Catholics who think that purgatory cleanses them, is that without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins.

There is no purification from sins by fire. It's only by Jesus' blood.

Context; Heaven is not a democracy, nor a republic. I already posted the scripture that shows Moses' prophecy and that the Prophet to come would speak God's words, so yes, He can legislate from the bench.

Then you are forced into the corner of denying Jesus' own words.

Matthew 5:17-18 "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished."

Christ did not change the Law either. There is no law that can give eternal life.

Galatians 3:21 Is the law then contrary to the promises of God? Certainly not! For if a law had been given that could give life, then righteousness would indeed be by the law.

I get hat impression, too. Why won’t they accept God’s assurance of salvation? Does not make sense. I am just thankful I do not believe that stuff. That is my $.02.

The believer has ALREADY been judged, past tense.

The record of his sin debt has been canceled and he is declared righteous, hence saved.

The work of Christ continues in Purgatory.

Did Jesus lie when He said *It is finished"?*

Nope.

Done is done.

It doesn't say how they washed their robes white.

Then it can't be presumed to be purgatory.

Then again, there's this.

Revelation 7:14I said to him, "Sir, you know." And he said to me, "These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb."

"Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come." --Jesus

The clear implication is that some sins can be forgiven after death.

Christ's Church teaches that these sins are "venial" sins, or those sins that do "not lead to death."

There is also the following passage from Maccabees that Luther excised from his Bible:

2 Maccabees 12:46

It is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins.

The fact that the text(s) used for apologetic purposes, with regards to Purgatory, are not as strong as I originally thought is of little concern to me. It doesn’t positively show they *cant* be used for such a purpose, and it certainly doesn’t necessarily demonstrate the dogma of Purgatory is false.

Maybe not...But these scriptures DO show that you can not possibly use these scriptures as some sort of proof text for the Catholic purgatory...
