Very good explanation; Protestantism, including its derivatives Evangelicalism and Restorationist movements do not have this authority; they are separated from the Apostles by a wide historical gulf despite trying to re-form Christianity after their own image, so to speak.

Yet when "mary" shows up in an apparition and makes promises or tells people to do things, catholics are free to accept or reject them.

The pope can't say if the first 11 chapters of Genesis is literal or symbolic yet he can issue dogmas on "mary" that conflict with the Word.

The catholic has no room to criticize.
