That, in a nutshell. In modern marriage, men assume most of the risk while a hypergamous female can have her kicks, and the kids, and the house, and a sizeable portion of the man's earnings. In my youth, I wanted to find a nice young woman with whom to settle down and have a family. The problem is, I didn't find much out there in the way of lifelong partnership material.
