On the eve of the Vatican synod on marriage and the family, progressive German Cardinal Walter Kasper has come out publicly against doctrinal fundamentalism in the Church, while expressing his hope that the synod will open a dialogue on contraception for Catholics and reconsider the situation of homosexuals.
At a recent launch in Rome for his new book Witness to Mercy, the Cardinal complained of those who want to close off dialogue on certain issues as if they were settled forever.
In his book, released to coincide with the opening of the synod, the Cardinal deals with a number of hot-button issues, such as homosexuality. For me, this inclination is a question mark: it does not reflect the original design of God and yet it is a reality, because you are born gay, he says in the book.
Kasper advocates a more holistic approach to theology, while lamenting what he terms a certain fundamentalism in the Church. You take one line of the Gospel and this becomes an ideology to support your case, he said.

Rather, you made the sinful choice to be gay.
The left lauds itself for being the party of “science” when not one bit of it supports their born gay theorems. They know this too...but, much like the constant lie of “its an in-viable tissue mass” they lie to themselves over and over and over so they do not have to address the truth and consequences of their choices.
BULL CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Being a Catholic, I can say ‘it’s a sin...it is made that way, your not born that way,’ GOD DOESN’T MAKE MISTAKES!!!
Any mention by Cardinal Kasper about the saving Grace through Christ’s Work on the Cross?
Maybe LIGHTNING will STRIKE KASPAR! God DOES have a sense of humor!
I don’t suppose there’s any chance the synod will call upon Cardinal Kaspar to repent and if he does not, pronounce a solemn anathema against him. That procedure seemed to work very well in the old days.
I was born wanting to sleep with every woman I see.
I know, however, it would be wrong to do that.
At one time, I bought into that “born gay” bull****. Not anymore. The sexual deviants are out recruiting homos and a lot of the young females are doing it because it “the next big thing.” A lot of liberal “parents” have developed a weird version of Munchausen’s syndrome and are encouraging their offspring to be a deviant because it’s “chic” to have a “transgender” brat these days. JMO of what I see going on.
All I can say is the only thing to say, namely, Matthew 7: 21-23.
The good Cardinal might want to stop fooling himself.
Conveniently, the human genome project was completed some years ago.
All he has to do is point to the gay gene and we can put the matter to rest.
But if one ignores the Laws of God, one does choose to commit the sin of fornication or sodomy.
Going with what the Bible says about the sin.
Of course the heretics never quote scripture. Guess they will next re-write the bible to take out all condemnation of homosexuality.
Personally, I believe this is what the Third Secret of Fatima was all about. For our sins, we are being punished by having diabolical freaks infiltrate the highest levels of every human institution that governs our lives.
Nope, no more than you are born Catholic.
One of those aspects of concupiscence which afflict every one of us and "orient" us towards sin, as a consequence of Original Sin.
Merkle and kasper. Germany knows how to churn out some self destructive people.
