WASHINGTON Donald Trump recently showed up at a gathering of Iowa conservative Christian voters with a copy of the Bible in hand.
See, Im better than you thought, he said. Then came a black-and-white photograph from his confirmation to further prove his Christian cred.
Nobody believes this, he said to laughs. What went wrong?
As the Republican presidential front-runner and billionaire businessman tries to maintain his lead in early polls with rivals gaining, Trump is increasingly courting a wing of the Republican Party that might seem antithetical to his brand: evangelical Christians.
After initially declining the invitation, Trump spoke Friday in front of several hundred social conservative leaders at the Family Research Councils Values Voter Summit in Washington. He joined a speaking program that includes Republican rivals with long records of dedication to religious causes among them, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, a Baptist pastor, and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who wants his colleagues to risk a government shutdown to block funding to Planned Parenthood.
Trump brought his Bible along once again, and briefly addressed his faith between attacks on his rivals and Democrats.
I believe in God. I believe in the Bible. Im a Christian, he said. He ended by bemoaning the increased use of the term Happy Holidays in place of Merry Christmas as a sign that Christianity is under attack. As president, he said, hed reverse the trend.
In Oklahoma City later in the day, Trump had kind words for Pope Francis as the Catholic leader visited Trumps hometown of New York. He is a unifier. He wants to bring people together, and I think thats a great thing, Trump said. Thats what we have to do. We have to bring people together. He did mention that he disagrees with Francis on global warming.

Thanks for the ping. I saw Trump hold that pic up, nice to see it better ;)
We should continue praying for Trump, and he is easy to pray for, because of his sincerity, awkwardness, and that rather longing look in his eyes when discussing seriously these things of faith, from his past.
Just the other day, here on FR, I was making a joke that 0bama took “Hussein” as his Confirmation name.

I don’t disagree one iota with you. Trump, frankly, has never needed God, in his mind. I think he’s actually perhaps on a crossroads. So many many things can happen, good and bad when you run or elected.
First off the crazies out there who are out to get you, physically or your family. The people are plotting to hurt you. Then you have your so called friends...and the press.
It takes a larger than life man or woman to pull this off.
We now know that the United States can survive a total screw off for president 4 years...but 8 years? The damage will be almost irreparable esp if China makes some moves in the next year or so.
But screw offs more than 8 years leads to disaster. WE must elect a strong person, not Mr. Nice Guy.
Anyone know where Trump is going to be tonight?
As I once told my pastor when my son was a teen. its easy to let go and let him search. I know what’s at the end of the journey.
IMO its not the search that is the sin but the lack of searching or the thought that one has found all the answers.
He is searching.
Ah, thank you so much. I would have missed that had you not pinged. A dear picture. And, look at Trump’s eyes while showing that photo off, in his hand. Thx! Rita.
Hear, Hear, baby!!!

>> “But IF he is in fact humbling himself to be led by God, no power on earth will stop him.” <<
.
But there is zero evidence of such.
He has recently declared that he had no reason to repent of his sins because he was a “nice guy.”
That is the essence of the most common rejection of Yeshua.
“We’re all nice guys; why do we need God?”
One cannot believe in the Bible without believing every word that Yeshua and his apostles have told us.

Guess you didn’t read what the pastor said. You see your own evidence. But the pastor is one, and if there is another, that’s in the mouths of two or three witnesses.
My guitarist in our first road band was with Alice Cooper when his band was called the Earwigs. I knew Phoenix Suns broadcaster Gary Bender, who used to teach Alice’s kids at North Phoenix Baptist Church Sunday School. I never met Alice, but he interviewed me on his radio show about five years ago.
No matter who-—Joel Osteen to, yes, Barack Obama-—I always give a person’s faith the benefit of the doubt. (With Obama, he has pretty much proven he is not a believer). But when it comes to leaders, Gid never chose “moral men” to lead: Moses was a murderer, Saul supervised murder, Jonah was rebellious, David an adulterer, and do on. All Gid needs us a willing heart. And nine times out of ten, we don’t see what God sees in a heart.
And Rita, what exactly does that mean?
Luke 18:22-27
Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet
lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and
distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in
heaven: and come, follow me.
And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was
very rich.
And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said,
How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the
kingdom of God!
For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye,
than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved?
And he said, The things which are impossible with men are
possible with God."
I don't think I'll comment on this. God is the Judge.
The point precisely is GOD is the judge, not men. If left up to men, we would have missed Moses, Jonah, David, Peter, and Paul.
God will judge us as well. Maybe with Trump.
U did not see this until after I wrote #97. Yes, God will judge, and he will judge a nation that has killed 10 times the number of His babies and our heritage than Gemany did in the Holocaust.
Yeah, it’s really interesting to get into the German Christian Church, and how all but a few like Bonhoffer who stood up to the Nazis.
