WASHINGTON Donald Trump recently showed up at a gathering of Iowa conservative Christian voters with a copy of the Bible in hand.
See, Im better than you thought, he said. Then came a black-and-white photograph from his confirmation to further prove his Christian cred.
Nobody believes this, he said to laughs. What went wrong?
As the Republican presidential front-runner and billionaire businessman tries to maintain his lead in early polls with rivals gaining, Trump is increasingly courting a wing of the Republican Party that might seem antithetical to his brand: evangelical Christians.
After initially declining the invitation, Trump spoke Friday in front of several hundred social conservative leaders at the Family Research Councils Values Voter Summit in Washington. He joined a speaking program that includes Republican rivals with long records of dedication to religious causes among them, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, a Baptist pastor, and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who wants his colleagues to risk a government shutdown to block funding to Planned Parenthood.
Trump brought his Bible along once again, and briefly addressed his faith between attacks on his rivals and Democrats.
I believe in God. I believe in the Bible. Im a Christian, he said. He ended by bemoaning the increased use of the term Happy Holidays in place of Merry Christmas as a sign that Christianity is under attack. As president, he said, hed reverse the trend.
In Oklahoma City later in the day, Trump had kind words for Pope Francis as the Catholic leader visited Trumps hometown of New York. He is a unifier. He wants to bring people together, and I think thats a great thing, Trump said. Thats what we have to do. We have to bring people together. He did mention that he disagrees with Francis on global warming.

I am unaware of his record when giving to charity. Where can I check it out?
when asked if he had asked GOD for forgiveness the Donnie Said:
“I am not sure I have. I just go on and try to do a better job from there. I don’t think so,” he said. “I think if I do something wrong, I think, I just try and make it right. I don’t bring God into that picture. I don’t.”
Trump said that while he hasn’t asked God for forgiveness, he does participate in Holy Communion.
“When I drink my little wine — which is about the only wine I drink — and have my little cracker, I guess that is a form of asking for forgiveness, and I do that as often as possible because I feel cleansed,” he said. “I think in terms of ‘let’s go on and let’s make it right.’”
Hes deeply involved with CHURCHIANITY!! that we can count on!!
remember....he does not bring GOD into......the picture.
Have you even tried searching for such a thing??
Piss off, Mikey.
You’ve been a piss poor sport about Trump from day one. Bigots like you have no say in this race as we know how you’ll vote for Hillary the second the ballots come out.
Your biased opinions mean nothing to no one.
No, didn’t think to. I am curious. It might help my final decision.
There have been threads on FR as well about Trump’s personal charity. The man doesn’t just give millions and millions away with photo-ops, he personally gets involved, like letting a medical patient in California use his 727 to fly to medical care.
First check into the Trump Foundation or Eric Trump foundation which takes care of much of the philanthropy for the family. There are some of the individual giving on the Trump getting thread
1 He paid off the mortgage of a middle age couple who helped him when his car broke down and they acted as good Samaritans
2. He read about a widow who was loosing the family farm. Her husband had committed suicide hoping there would be enough $$. He paid off the farm. Kept in touch with the family for years even after her death. Even paid for her grand daughters college education
3. He’s given hundreds of thousands dollars to Grahm ministries and several other that names slip me
4. He flew a little girl and her family from west coast to east to get medical care when airlines woukdnt fly them. Also took care of their needs
The list goes on an on. As his friend Dr Ben Carson and Alice Cooper say he is a very generous kind man
Not interested in your doubt or games. I know who I support and why, fools won’t distract me.
Go away. You can’t read anyway.
We all know the difference in charitable write offs, charity, social causes, humanitarian organizations and personal faith, sport.
How naïve of you to falsely project about anyone’s personal faith, based upon crass material and financial generosity alone.
Trump loves his faith and the memories of it. But, he does not attend church, attending only occasionally on Easter. That translates to not every Easter, at that.
Give me a break.
Thank you, changes my outlook a bit.
Your remarks concerning Trump and church attendance hits home. For years I was very active in my church even to the extent of representing my church at synod meetings and giving layperson sermons. I haven’t resolved whether or not my not being a regular church goer has been the result of lack of importance as to beliefs and dogma or just laziness. In any case I do believe the churches have lost some of the old fashion religion that I was accustomed to.
“Go away. You cant read anyway.”
Go away? Sorry, this isn’t a little girls club you can kick out a girl for not wearing the right fingernail polish. Grow up, sister.
“Trump loves his faith and the memories of it. But, he does not attend church, attending only occasionally on Easter. That translates to not every Easter, at that.”
Many faithful do not attend “church” as you all these mega-corporations for profit. Jesus never needed a building. Sorry you believe faith is only inside something like that.
“How naïve of you to falsely project about anyones personal faith, based upon crass material and financial generosity alone.”
That is nothing but a childish insult to those that do good out of the kindness of their heart. What a black heart you have. Have you ever done something so generous in ratio to your means as he has?? I highly doubt it. Black hearted people like you that denounce the gifts of others are rarely as generous as the ones they hate so much as you hate Trump.
“Many faithful do not attend church as you all these mega-corporations for profit.”
Many faithful do not attend church as you call these mega-corporations for profit.
Bye. I’ve already seen your “defining statements.” I don’t find them very Christ-like.
Many faithful do not attend church as you all these mega-corporations for profit. Jesus never needed a building >>>>
Oh, I believe I get your painted picture. You reveal quite a lot. So cogently too. (See, above.)
Faith, to you, is what you say it is, or it’s what you choose to project it is, from your very loose bag of contents— of spilled out attitude.
Babble, babble.
So far, you inflate your self-projection and authority to condemn and correct, and then you show your shorts with your ignorance and therefore disregard, for any signs or evidence of faith, as in the actual practices of the faith, (other than the extent of the wallet). Yep, just give til it hurts, and brush your hands of the rest.
In your senseless argument, Sunday would be just one more day. Attending to Easter, optional. And, because Lord Jesus didn’t have a plane, babble, babble (incoherent), and if the church is large it must be run by mega charlatans, and a “church” is just an address with a cross, because that “many of the faithful do not attend church”.
I gotta meet those guys— your kind of, “faithful”.
Hey, that’s a great gig if you can get it. You can oversee your very own alternative universe, condemn the obvious, blow off Truth, reconfigure to your own satisfaction the Ten Commandments (they are sooo yesterday, anyway).
Okay. I get it. I think we’re done here.
Thank you, hoosiermama.
So you’re one of those that thinks unless a person practices faith exactly as you believe they should then they cannot possibly be faithful. Got it. Arrogantly Judgmental. It is why religion is so hard to discuss as there is always one of you in the room to spoil it.
