Pope Francis on Tuesday will release new streamlined procedures for annulling marriages after he and thousands of Catholics before him complained that the church's current system is cumbersome, costly and often unfair.

Thank YOU!
This guy is a disaster for Catholicism and the Church. He is a false profit, an anti-pope!
More nonsense for Bergoglio.
The reason millions of Christians reject Roman Catholicism is because they have read for themselves the Word of God; they have allowed the written Word and the Holy Spirit to lead them - not the Roman Catholic magisterium - and like me, when they look at the RC church they get a "does not compute" in their being.
If you want blasphemy, look at the history and theology of your beloved RC church!
Don’t you think this pope is better then the last pope. The last pope was a failure and the only thing he did was change the words of the mass which still pisses me off every Sunday. That horrid Pope had no right to change the words to the mass that I had for 45 years. He was the biggest Pope failure ever. The only good thing was that he quit without furthering more damage to the Catholic Church. Pope Francis is pretty good overall.
I am torn between not believing the media and a being disappointed in this guy.
Does any Catholic imagine that, had Bergoglio been a contemporary, Dante would have spared him the torments of Hell?
“What the RC church fails to acknowledge is that a secular or non-RC marriage is a legitimate marriage. The first institution was marriage - not the church, RC or otherwise. That’s the point that’s missed!”
Excellent point.
Dante put Ulysses in hell (shipwrecked for sailing past the Pillars of Hercules and approaching Purgatory).
What the RC church fails to acknowledge is that a secular or non-RC marriage is a legitimate marriage. The first institution was marriage - not the church, RC or otherwise. That's the point that's missed!
Okay, so secular marriage is legitimate and church definitions are not. And that would mean, in this secular country, that gay marriage is the legitimate definition of marriage, and that traditional definitions such as those espoused by various churches would be illegitimate. And, therefore if a church says that a gay couple are not married, they are then attempting to nullify a legal marriage, which is evil. Correct? Am I missing something in this secular marriage is legitimate argument?
“Correct? Am I missing something in this secular marriage is legitimate argument?”
If I understood JesusIsLord correctly, yes. He was speaking of that instituted by God the Father and reaffirmed by Jesus: “For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”
That’s for all mankind. No, “gay marriage” is not remotely accepted by God, and yes we now have an absolute mess on our hands as a society. Not sure how we work it out when “things fall apart” (see: Yeats’ SECOND COMING).
No, not at all. You have it backwards. The RC church, through its annulment process (avg. $500-$1000), declares secular and non-RC Christian marriages BETWEEN A MAN AND A WOMAN illegitimate. Frequently, the annulment serves to sanitize the petitioner's divorce thus making him/her a good son/daughter of the RC church. What a joke! Ted Kennedy had his first marriage annulled. His is an good example of the corrupt practice.
Your introduction of gay perversion is a not the issue. We can all agree that so-called gay marriage is not a marriage in any case. BTW - if you want to bring homosexuals into the discussion, you can begin by explaining why ths RC church spent and continues to spend multiple millions protecting and shielding its perverted homosexual pedophiles who are priests & bishops. If not for the statute of limitations, thousands of RC priests would be in prison.
The argument is whether a legal marriage between a man and a woman, including those that produced children, can be made null and void simply because the RC church deems it so.
No, it doesn't. All it says is that non-Catholic marriages aren't the Catholic sacrament of Matrimony.
Good post. The Pope is responding to the valid criticisms that actual annulments can literally take years and cost thousands of dollars. What is hoped for with this process streamlining is for anyone applying for an annulment will get a much quicker response on whether the annulment process would be valid for them. It also would lessen the costs as many people that would otherwise seek a valid annulment do not and then live their lives working around the divorce issue. I have not fully investigated the changes but I do not believe any standard of what constitutes an annulment are changing (based on further investigation, I could be wrong). I am not trying to defend or criticize this action, just explain it. God bless.
Your handle implies that you believe in truth but your post is false.
I am so sorry that you are angry at Mass every week. Our Lord does not wish that anger for you, He gives His Peace to you if you choose to receive It.
As for the word change which causes you such emotion, Pope Benedict desired the New Mass to be brought much closer to the approved Latin translation. It was disobedient liberals who brought you that 45 year English version. The new iteration restores some depth and meaning and he was well within his rights to bring accuracy and tradition back to the Mass.
Anger is a bit hyperbole. But I went to 13 years of Catholic School (K included) and we were tested and tested on the mass and we had the entire mass memorized. Now I still can’t keep up with the changes. Latin was great when it was used for the Mass (I never experienced it) but Latin is no longer used so why not keep our great mass that we had.
Pope Francis’ motto: “If you can’t beat the conservative (i.e. Catholic) bishops, go behind their backs before the SinNod”.
I go to Latin Mass, it is great, problem solved.
Final report is probably already written.
An annulment only says that the marriage was not the Sacrament of Matrimony. The marriage is NOT illegitimate.
