At my mothers funeral, years ago, The grandkids all gave a little eulogy...Grandma, tube socks every year for Christmas, grandma, always took care of neighborhood kitties....etc, etc...when we went behind the church to the cemetery, they released helium baloons to represent her soul going to heaaven....very upbeat ceremony.

When I got married we did that, too. Some people found the attached notes on the ground after the balloon were buffeted by the wind, broke into pieces and fell to the ground. They mailed the note back to us to say where the balloon plummeted back to earth.
Thankfully, no one viewed it as representing anything other than wind.
Today, I think the practice is ill-advised. Apparently it has a foul fowl impact.
