Megachurch leader and author T.D. Jakes says that homosexuals should attend congregations that affirm their lifestyle and that politics do not need to reflect biblical ethics, adding that his position on homosexuality is both evolved and evolving.
During an interview with the Huffington Post on Monday, Jakes was asked by a viewer if he believes that homosexuals and the black church can co-exist.
Absolutely I think it is going to be diverse from church to church. Every church has a different opinion on the issue and every gay person is different, he replied. And I think that to speak that the churchthe black church, the white church or any kind of church you wanna call itare all the same, is totally not true.
Jakes said that he thinks homosexuals should find congregations that affirm their lifestyle.
"LGBTs of different types and sorts have to find a place of worship that reflects what your views are and what you believe like anyone else, he outlined.
The church should have the right to have its own convictions and values; if you dont like those convictions and values [and] you totally disagree with it, dont try to change my house, move into your own and find somebody who gets what you get about faith, Jakes added.
He said that the issue of homosexuality is complex.
Paul spends a lot of time wrestling back and forth, trying to understand should a woman wear a head covering, should you cut your hair, Jakes stated. I mean, they grappled back then and were grappling now because were humans and we are flawed and were not God.
Once you understand youre not God, you leave yourself an out clause to grow, he said.
When asked if his position on homosexuality has evolved, Jakes agreed that it has.
Evolved and evolving, he replied. I think that where I am is to better understand we, the church, bought into the myth that this is a Christian nation.
Earlier this year, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that states must legalize same-sex marriage, igniting a battle between the Church and State over the issue. In his comments on Monday, Jakes advocated for the separation of Church and State, which would allow for all types of people to have whatever rights they desire despite biblical prohibitions. He said that politics dont need to be based on Christianity.
[O]nce you get past [thinking America is a Christian nation] Once you begin to understand that democracythat a republic actuallyis designed to be an overarching system to protect our unique nuances, then we no longer look for public policy to reflect biblical ethics, Jakes explained.
If we can divideor what you would call separation of Church and Statethen we can dwell together more effectively because atheists, agnostics, Jews, all types of people, Muslims, pay into the government. The government then cannot reflect one particular view over another just because were the dominant group of religious people in [this] country because those numbers are changing every day, he asserted. We need a neutralized government that protects our right to disagree with one another and agree with one another.
Jakes had visited the Huffington Post to discuss his new book on destiny. The interview focused on motivational subject matter in following ones dreams and passions as opposed to the eternal destiny of the soul.
Funny. God's Word only seems to have ONE opinion on the issue if you bother to actually read it.
Good gosh. Speechless.
First thing i though when looking at it was “Is that a drawing of a dude with a Bible flipping me the bird?”
What does the bible say about this? Here we have a man making a decision not biblically based. No scripture is quoted.
The word of God is the same yesterday today & forever.
Bye jakes, you are pandering to heathens.
Here’s a longer analysis of his ministry and then his problem areas:
http://www.equip.org/article/concerns-about-the-teachings-of-t-d-jakes/
Executive summary, yes, he appears to be a modalist, and more than that, a health and wealth teacher with the evangelistic skills of Billy Graham combined with the redemptive theology of Dr. Phil. It sounds as if for a long time he’s been downplaying sin and instead trying to help people overcome their victimization. So I’d guess he was ripe for this kind of “evolution” on gay relationships.
He’s also made the argument that Jesus was rich, so it’s OK for us to be rich. He thinks Jesus was rich because how else did the twelve disciples get by without working? Yikes.
Anyway, he’s not alone in his error. Too many successful people get caught up in the trappings of their worldly gains and lose sight of the plain old brown wrapper Gospel. Jesus warned of the spiritual dangers an unhealthy attachment to worldly goods. Not that success is bad. Just that we are weak.
Peace,
SR
Affirming sinful and destructive lifestyles is not Godly, Mr. Jakes.
Ludicrous generalization Gero
I mean really....
That is exactly backwards. If I'm a cafeteria Christian and only comply with God's word when it matches what I would do anyway, I am no Christian at all. The whole point of Christianity is to give God sovereignty over our lives. When God's will, as revealed in scripture, and our wants, as determined by current whim, collide, we are better off deferring to God.
He pretends that culture doesn't influence government when the very thing he's saying is testimony that culture is influencing government. It all depends on the dominant culture.
When Christianity was the dominant American culture, it was the major influence on government.
"Should" culture influence government? An irrelevant question that is akin to asking should temperature influence cooking time.
Conclusion: We have lost the culture. The question is how to regain it. Two things: (1) Hedonists always get lost in their hedonism after a while, and (2) The building blocks of culture are primarily nurture, education, association, and meaning.
One more Pastor that spits in God’s face.. Welcome to the road to Hell Mr.
Jakes......
He’s been for Hillary since forever. He’s also pro-abort.
Considering the issue, you might want to use a term other than 'blow'. ;-)
TD Jakes is cozy with Oprah and so is Rick Warren. Oprah for many years has openly supported homosexuality. I believe that you are known by the company you keep. Rick Warren showed up at Congress holding hands with Elton John and joked about kissing him. Now this statement from Jakes. Not surprising. I don’t think Ms. Winfrey would support anyone that did not share her views.
You know G_D told me that gay money spends just as good as regular money. T.D.Jakes
I have NO IDEA who this idiot is. Not news
It may go over some peoples heads, but there are questionable symbols on his website.
Not sure what you're referring to. The dollar signs?
Jakes is a Oneness Pentecostal --> modalist non-trinitarian. And a prosperity guy.
This has got to be satire.
Clay feet, anyone?

Does T.D. Jakes think Mega “churches” are among the “Created Things” worshiped and served per Romans 1:25.. - or did Gandalf the Ghey cut that chapter out of his “evolved” NewSpeak 2015 edition?
