Cardinal Hopes Gay Masses Can Be Rolled Out Throughout Church in England and Wales

A Westminster diocesan initiative to extend a special welcome to lesbian and gay Catholics at a regular Mass has proved so successful that Cardinal Vincent Nichols would like it to be rolled out nationwide, his lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) liaison priest has said.

The Masses, at the Jesuit Farm Street Church in central London, replaced the more controversial, so-called “gay Masses” that were designated for LGBT Catholics at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Soho until 2013.

Key to the transition was that the Farm Street Masses are an extension of the diocese’s pastoral care for gay people. LGBT Catholics join the regular congregation at the 6.15 p.m. Mass on Sunday evenings twice a month and meet afterwards for a social gathering in the parish hall.

Fr Keith Barltrop, who was appointed chaplain to the LGBT community by Vincent Nichols earlier this year, said that the cardinal would like to see the Farm Street Masses as a model for other parishes in his archdiocese. He added that the idea could be taken up by parishes in other dioceses.

The Farm Street Masses are similar to those said for the LGBT community in Chicago and Los Angeles. Martin Pendergast of the LGBT Catholics Westminster Pastoral Council said that any move to expand the model would be dependent on interested parishioners taking the lead.

To what end? The celebration of the "gift" of their "gayness" or mutual support in their struggle to live out the Church's teaching on chastity. There's a big difference and it is important.

It would be such a much better application of resources to give actual care to divorcees seeking annulments, rather than celebrate the bastardized ion of canon 915.

I just do not understand this pandering to 1% of the population, no matter what the country.

When your churches are full of gay priests that prey on choir boys this should be no real surprise. I know this will piss off the Catholics but its not that uncommon anymore. They used to hide it. Now they celebrate it.

I don’t understand the people who violate the tenants of their faith to stay “relevant.”

If you have to change the religion to fit your lifestyle, why bother to have a religion.

Jesus ministered to sinners — even prostitutes and tax collectors — and the religious community of the day condemned him for it.

The big difference between Jesus’ ministry and the contemporary liberal church is that, after ministering to sinners, Jesus would say “go, and sin no more” (e.g., John 8:11) whereas the contemporary liberal church says “go, and sin some more.” The situation of the contemporary liberal church is well described in the latter verses of Romans 1.

Still waiting for the “welcome” from the “liaison” to Catholics who prefer the TLM, traditional music, and orthodox teaching. Still waiting ... waiting ...

May as well “roll-out” satanic masses, as well.

Reaching out to sinners is a far cry from inviting them to God’s house in tacit approval of their sinful behavior. You are inviting them to a Mass they are prohibited from participating in. Unless the service advises them on the sinfulness of their behavior, the consequences of such sin and calls them to repent, then the entire affair is a sham and blasphemous.

The number of lapsed Catholics has to be huge, yet the Church decides that queers are more important.
Adding insult to injury is Pope Francis who's on the same wavelength as Che Guevara, Karl Marx and Barack Hussein Øbama.
