With all due respect to RC Freepers, please consider the following.
The misguided Catholic Church is corrupting itself as a consequence of not obeying the Holy Bible with respect to the Holy Bibles condemnation of same-sex sexual relationships, giving gays the boot. 1 Corinthians 15:33 comes to mind.
If reduced collection basket revenues are really a problem then the Church possibly has spending problems.
With all due respect, and as a Protestant, I disagree. They are going after the one of the most visible expressions of Christianity, and they will come after the rest of us, especially if the Catholic Church capitulates to these demands.
Did Jesus give sinners 'the boot'? No, he treated them as children of God, but told them to "go, and sin no more". The Catholic Church has always welcomed sinners, and preaches "hate the sin, but love the sinner", and for that, I'm glad, because I know I'm a sinner in need of redemption. Maybe not serious sin, but sin, nonetheless.
Unless we invite people to worship, how else will we reach them, and show them God's love? That doesn't mean we change our teachings, and we haven't done that, the US media hype about Pope Francis's comment notwithstanding. People are welcome to join the Church, but if they do, they will do it with the understanding that the Church will not change her teachings to make them feel comfortable in whatever sinful behavior they happen to engage.
1 Corinthians 6:9-11
"Do you not know that the unjust
will not inherit the kingdom of God?
Do not be deceived;
neither fornicators nor idolaters nor adulterers
nor boy prostitutes nor sodomites
nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards
nor slanderers nor robbers
will inherit the kingdom of God.
That is what some of you used to be;
but now you have had yourselves washed,
you were sanctified,
you were justified
in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ
and in the Spirit of our God."
What is "giving [someone] the boot" mean, precisely?
People who are involved in illicit sexual relationships are in an objective state of mortal sin, and are not to approach Holy Communion. Any catechism and any competent confessor (priest) will tell you that.
