no, I am not for “bashing”, but I have a different take.
I think the “bashers” while claiming to be Christian and spreading all kinds of demonstrably false accusations of Catholics, were actually helping Catholics. persecution has always been good for the growth of the Faith.
the other problem is what is bashing? can someone say the Eucharist is not the Body of Christ? I disagree with that, but that is not bashing. I like engaging such people, because I want the truth out.
so I guess we will need to see how this will work out.
I hope it doesn’t prevent hard, truthful debate on either side.
Actually, I agree with you. I’ve learned a lot in the religious forum debates. Yeah, they get out of hand sometimes but the RM usually gets a handle on it pretty quick. (I wouldn’t want the RMs job either). I’m not sure what particular action triggered this but there were some threads (Catholic and Prot), I would have locked out because they weren’t for informational purposes but a “My religion is better than yours) type of thread. But debates can be a healthy exchange of info on both sides, but each side has some thin skinned members and they become apparent.
You should have told me who was making demonstrably false accusations about Catholicism so i could correct them (as i did even recently) as i have done with RCs making demonstrably false accusations.
can someone say the Eucharist is not the Body of Christ? I disagree with that, but that is not bashing.
Nor would implying they are spiritually dead because they deny the literal understanding of Jn. 6:53, as a poster did today, but that would be considered bashing by RCs if one said they are dead because they trusted that infant baptism resulted in their regeneration.
Like liberals, many RCs (if not you) have shown themselves to most easily offended and the loudest whiners, which as now, has hindered meaningful debate.
