That's not the purpose of FR and not the purpose of our Religion forum. Trashing religion is not debate.
Those who cannot live with this are welcome to post elsewhere.
Did he post a thread?
As a hint...it might just be good to consider, that it's not open season to 'bash' any freeper, on religion forum threads.
That has not changed. That is not what this thread is about.
But go ahead and question away, if you must.
Yet know that others are as free to do so as you are.
Fair enough?
LOLOLOL.
Yep, I was pinged to this thread.
*sigh*
A Christian is a believer in Christ
‘’
Not according to some FR evangelical types, Catholics are not Christians. Seen that statement quite a few times. Do not follow or read religion threads, but I most certainly have read that in passing.
May not be bashing, but it certainly contributes to the rancor, same as claiming that to be a true conservative you must be evangelical.
That is certainly not the case for my Protestant church. My minister has stated more than a few times that there will be Catholics, Methodists, Baptists, Church of Christ, etc. There will be Christians in Heaven.
I’ve seen posts both ways. Some Catholics have stated that only Catholics will get to Heaven and I’ve seen some Protestants post that only their denomination will get to Heaven.
Neither side is pure in this debate.
My preference would be for us to tone down, all around, threads on the topic “My flavor of religion is right, and you people are all damned”.
You only read the beginning of the page, which is not surprising (some RCs have said they will not follow links which impugn their faith), as what follows is the historical teaching i referred to, in response to your denial of such.
If i must, i will post some of it here for you.
Pope Innocent III and Lateran Council IV: "One indeed is the universal Church of the faithful, outside which no one at all is saved, in which the priest himself is the sacrifice, Jesus Christ, whose body and blood are truly contained in the sacrament of the altar under the species of bread and wine; the bread (changed) into His body by the divine power of transubstantiation, and the wine into the blood..." Pope Innocent III and Lateran Council IV (A.D. 1215) [considered infallible by some]
Pope Pius IX (18461878), Encyclical Singulari Quidem, March 17, 1856): There is only one true, holy, Catholic Church, which is the Apostolic Roman Church. There is only one See founded on Peter by the word of the Lord, outside of which we cannot find either true faith or eternal salvation. He who does not have the Church for a mother cannot have God for a father, and whoever abandons the See of Peter on which the Church is established trusts falsely that he is in the Church. (On the Unity of the Catholic Church) http://www.papalencyclicals.net/Pius09/p9singul.htm
Pope Pius XI, Mortalium Animos: Furthermore, in this one Church of Christ no man can be or remain who does not accept, recognize and obey the authority and supremacy of Peter and his legitimate successors. Did not the ancestors of those who are now entangled in the errors of Photius [the eastern Orthodox schismatics] and the reformers, obey the Bishop of Rome, the chief shepherd of souls?...Let none delude himself with obstinate wrangling. For life and salvation are here concerned... Pope Pius XI, Mortalium Animos, PTC:873) The Promotion of True Religious Unity), 11, Encyclical promulgated on January 6, 1928, #11; http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/pius_xi/encyclicals/documents/hf_p-xi_enc_19280106_mortalium-animos_en.html
Pope Boniface VIII, Unam Sanctam:
We declare, say, define, and pronounce [ex cathedra] that it is absolutely necessary for the salvation of every human creature to be subject to the Roman Pontiff.
"If, therefore, the Greeks or others say that they are not committed to Peter and to his successors, they necessarily say that they are not of the sheep of Christ, since the Lord says that there is only one fold and one shepherd (Jn.10:16). Whoever, therefore, resists this authority, resists the command of God Himself." Pope Boniface VIII, Unam Sanctam (Promulgated November 18, 1302) http://www.fordham.edu/halsall/source/b8-unam.html
Note that modern RC teaching is contrary to this according to most interpretations in word and in deed. However, RC theology still "bashes" (according to how many RCs would define it if it were them being excluded) another religion by excluding Prot churches as being worthy to be properly titled "church."
DOMINUS IESUS: the ecclesial communities which have not preserved the valid Episcopate and the genuine and integral substance of the Eucharistic mystery,61 are not Churches in the proper sense; http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20000806_dominus-iesus_en.html
You don’t have to answer to any of them. Ignore them.
Right! PLUS the anti-Russian propaganda that easily turns into or includes anti-Orthodox propaganda!!!!
Much of the anti-Russian propaganda stems from the “gay”/”Human Rights Campaign” propaganda mill, and/or from the pro-”gay” obama White House and/or State Department! Or it comes from a failure to tell the difference between the old Soviet Union and today’s Russia.
Conservatives who continue to spout this propaganda need to examine where they get their info from.
What is really disconcerting is that there is NO leading Republican candidate who does not spout anti-Russian (and frequently anti-Orthodox) propaganda. The most disappointing one of all is Ted Cruz, who opposed ALL the obama/Hillary warmongering efforts, until the Ukraine conflict happened. It is abundantly clear from good public info that the Ukraine/Maidan coup of Feb. 2014 was engineered by the obama State Department, especially by Victoria Nuland. And it happened during the big pro-”gay” State Department propaganda offensive, which Ms. Nuland continues to propagate.
Ted Cruz—and other Republican candidates—should have done their homework. If they didn’t like the coups and attacks in Egypt/Syria/Libya/etc, they should like the one in Ukraine even less! After all, Russia has a good supply of nuclear weapons, and even apart from fairness and decency toward the Orthodox world, only a fool wants war with Russia!!!!
I’m sorry but you’re being entirely too cryptic for me today.
Is it your position that “bashing” is permissible as long as it isn’t a thread starter? My point was that daniel1212 appeared to be bashing the Catholic Church (by calling her elitist) in the very thread where I thought the bashing was being prohibited.
Most definitely, friend.
It was about noticing. And it was only a few, really. No big deal...just a few times which you'd droppd in so top speak, while already irritated by the whole deal. So it's understandable, and forgivable.
And, this came about not by "tracking", but just like people notice comments made by whomever else.
Does that make sense?
I can't help it that I have generally good reading comprehension, and retention.
LOL!
My best to you and yours. You have been missed around here.
Why don’t you just back off and tone it down a notch or two. We’ll get along a lot better without your backhanded snottiness. Thanks.
No...
I will. I just read the religion forum rules. What a joke, especially about what is hate and what is not. If I am wrong about anything that follows, I should leave FR and may.
FR “apparently” stands by the Declaration of Independence (and more which I will cover later). Any religion that denies the principles of the Declaration are anathema and worthy of derision, scorn and ridicule. Is there any doubt that Muslims do not respect those principles? Christians, Catholics and Mormons do support those principles and as such are welcomed. So do Jews though Hindus and Buddhists raise some issues. Whether you believe in one God or many gods I could care a wit as long as you believe in absolutes of right and wrong. You can follow the Pope to your hearts desire UNTIL he speaks against our Declaration and Constitution. I don’t care who you pray to as long as at the end of the day, you respect my right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness as much as I respect your right to the same. If you speak against my rights, I will bash you with everything at my disposal.
I am simply making the point that much religious doctrine is not an infringement on me, with some very notable exceptions. When it does infringe on me, I have the right of self-defense.
On the issue of free speech on a private web site, it is more complicated. I wrote an article long ago titled “Not Heavenly Bound”. Basically, it was about how outraged the left was by anyone telling them they were going to hell. I said how absurd for people who don’t believe in hell to feel put upon by people who do. I then gave some examples of what might guarantee you were not going to heaven, but why worry if neither heaven nor hell exist.
I’ll get to the speech issue but it would be nice to know fellow conservatives share my concern that we be just but not oppressive. More to come.
Are you...?
different guy.
Actually, a number of the words in the Bible are God speaking directly to humanity. Not to mention the apostolic testimony that the words of Scripture come directly from the Holy Spirit.
OTOH, if you want to count the “stenographers” as among those “humans saying things,” I guess that’s true. They are human and they are saying things God told them to say.
Or how about this. The “stenographers” all wrote what Jesus quoted to Satan in the wilderness temptation, right? But what did Jesus say about those words? Man shall live by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. Right? Looks like Jesus skipped right over the stenographers when talking about Scripture. Sort of like MamaB just did.
But not when talking about the Jewish magisterium. With them He was quite harsh, for all their interference, their failure to give out the truth contained in Scripture.
So here’s a thought. If you really believe the words of Scripture and the words of your professed magisterium are on the same level, equally inspired by the Holy Spirit, why not canonize them as Scripture too and put them in the Book? Seems reasonable to me.
Peace,
SR
