I will. I just read the religion forum rules. What a joke, especially about what is hate and what is not. If I am wrong about anything that follows, I should leave FR and may.
FR “apparently” stands by the Declaration of Independence (and more which I will cover later). Any religion that denies the principles of the Declaration are anathema and worthy of derision, scorn and ridicule. Is there any doubt that Muslims do not respect those principles? Christians, Catholics and Mormons do support those principles and as such are welcomed. So do Jews though Hindus and Buddhists raise some issues. Whether you believe in one God or many gods I could care a wit as long as you believe in absolutes of right and wrong. You can follow the Pope to your hearts desire UNTIL he speaks against our Declaration and Constitution. I don’t care who you pray to as long as at the end of the day, you respect my right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness as much as I respect your right to the same. If you speak against my rights, I will bash you with everything at my disposal.
I am simply making the point that much religious doctrine is not an infringement on me, with some very notable exceptions. When it does infringe on me, I have the right of self-defense.
On the issue of free speech on a private web site, it is more complicated. I wrote an article long ago titled “Not Heavenly Bound”. Basically, it was about how outraged the left was by anyone telling them they were going to hell. I said how absurd for people who don’t believe in hell to feel put upon by people who do. I then gave some examples of what might guarantee you were not going to heaven, but why worry if neither heaven nor hell exist.
I’ll get to the speech issue but it would be nice to know fellow conservatives share my concern that we be just but not oppressive. More to come.
saved you the trouble. bye
Of course, one could just not click on/read the thread and article. Novel idea.
Myself, I’ve spent way too much time this afternoon following this thread. But I knew it would be interesting. :)
The bottom line, to me, is the owner of the site said no mas. I don’t have to agree with it. Nobody forced me to click on Free Republic. :)
