There are exceptions, such as the theory that, rather than being created in the Image and Likeness of God, we descended from apes.
As much as they disagree with that theory/falsehood, they should not have the authority to imprison/murder/torture people they disagree with. The Catholic Church has had that power in the past and abused it.
