The practice of yoga has no place in the lives of Christians, was the announcement made by the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece in response to the International Day of Yoga, which was established by the United Nations in 2014.
The Holy Synod argues that since yoga is a fundamental aspect of Hinduism, it cannot be practiced by Christians because it is contrary to the Christian faith. And because of that it cannot be considered as just a form of exercise.
The official announcement further states that the Church of Greece respects the freedom of religious belief but claims is has a responsibility in order to avoid developing a climate of religious syncretism.
they pass baskets to solicit donations in yoga too?
Flaws? Logic? Maybe use Scripture....
I guess somebody awakened their inner Kundalini, i.e. a goddess that is in the base of the spine which is then attempted to awaken through, that’s right you guessed it, yoga. Now you can sit there and debate if this is the original tradition or not, since there are different styles of yoga, but at the heart is you getting energy and relaxation by doing something to yourself through a series of moves and poses rooted in the supernatural like it or not. And since it is not for us to play with the supernatural other than prayer and the commands of Jesus, you are opening yourself to demonic harassment and worse possession. Basically you are using the body to channel spirits, and since there really are only one kind of spirit that can be channeled via this route, it isn’t hard to figure out why yoga is not good for you. If you doubt it, then ask yourself why is so much Paganism/Godlessness taking off at the same time that things such as yoga have become so popular. If you believe in the supernatural, then you also have to believe there is an inverse relationship between the holy and its respective acts during those holy times with the evil and its respective acts during those evil times that we are now experiencing.
“So, you are referring to Catholic rituals, then.
I said CHRISTIAN rituals.”
Lol, there are no rituals then. That was my point.
Likely as much as baseball. A lot of stretches the players go through look pretty yogi-ish to me.
The issue isn’t ignorance about what yoga is. Don’t listen to this so called minister and his accusations. Its quite clear throughout old and new testament that God hates it when his people adopt pagan worship practices.
Point taken.
The problem is the cultural acceptance of ritual as Christianity.
Kudalini yoga is meditative, deliberative, focuses on breath work and is not something someone stumbles on accidentally while doing a series of stretching/strengthening postures in a heated room....
I’ve met many MANY yogis. Most of them are very nice people, albeit mostly non Christians. None of the ones I know are responsible for the monstrous evils in the world at this time. Evil is active in Islam. Maybe the worst thing you can say about using yoga as a philosophy/religion is that it is often causes the practitioner to turn inward, disengage and become self absorbed. Evil? Not really. Kind of reminds me of John’s words in Revelation 3:15-16— “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarmneither hot nor coldI am about to spit you out of my mouth.”
Yogi Berra....
