No 'bigger fish to fry' than abortion
Baptist Press ^ | June 05, 2015 | Allen Raynor

ROGERS, Texas (BP) -- We live in a world where the truths we have always known and relied upon are being cast aside in favor of new paradigms, most of which are not for the better.

Christians are being forced to scatter their attention and fight the culture war on many fronts. The battle for the biblical definition of marriage is certainly worth our fight. But it is, by no means, the only front in this culture war.

We still need to confront the legally sanctioned atrocities of abortion.

People may believe they have "bigger fish to fry," to use an old expression. Make no mistake: I am appalled at all that is going on in our declining social and political climate, but I still would argue that abortion remains an ominous indicator of our descent into the morass of hedonism.

Legalized abortion on demand, at a minimum, is the utter contempt for God and all that He has said and done. It is an attack on Him as the Creator of life; it is counter to His command to be "fruitful and multiply"; it is dismissive of all He says about the hope a new life represents for the future; it violates the natural God-given bond between a mother and child; it lays aside what Scripture says about the protective and provisional responsibilities of fatherhood; it violates God's Word concerning murder; it is a grievously sinful practice, often used in an attempt to otherwise deal with other previously committed sin. The problem of sin, though, is never solved by committing more sin.

The old argument that a woman should be able to do what she wishes with her own body is, at best, a declaration of selfishness. By contrast, many selfless and bighearted people stand with open arms waiting to adopt children who, otherwise, will have their lives snuffed out "legally" by an already born doctor financially profiting from the demise of small babies.

Now 42 years after the famed Roe v. Wade decision and nearly 60 million abortions, "Sanctity of Human Life" Sunday, once widely recognized by churches each January, has faded as many services go on as usual. The problem is actually bigger than ever, but the sense of urgency has diminished.

I was deeply moved by an expression of concern for the unborn on the most recent "Sanctity of Human Life Sunday." The church I pastor hosted our Baptist association's annual meeting on Sunday evening (Jan. 18). I noticed one group of about 12 men and women all dressed very well, but in black -- the men in black suits and the women in black dresses. Out of curiosity, I stopped one of the gentlemen and asked why everyone from his church was dressed in black. He said to me, "We always wear black on this Sunday."

I felt myself fighting back tears as his simple explanation touched a spot deep in my heart. Even though I had preached a message on the sanctity of human life that very morning, I knew that mere words or even a sermon could not begin to touch the depth of injustice that is going on every day, in every state, in every community. In John 11, Jesus stood at the tomb of Lazarus who had died. He was about to raise him from the dead, but before He did, verse 35 says, "Jesus wept." Death of all types grieves the heart of God and causes Him to weep. How much more is He grieved by senseless death, which so greatly devalues the previous gift He gives each successive generation.

I am convinced that every day for 42 years, since Roe v. Wade, one of the biggest stories in America -- regularly ignored in the newspapers and, too often, in our hearts -- is that an otherwise civilized society would legally allow a practice that rivals or tops any torturous act of ancient or medieval times and, by and large, indifferently look the other way.

Allen Raynor is senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Rogers, Texas.

I personally feel that there are three occasions when abortion should be legal.
1. Incest
2. Rape
3. Save the life of the mother.

That’s it....

What’s worse, rape or murder? You would punish the child for the sins of the father?

I’ve read that though it can be difficult for the mother to carry the baby of a rape to term, the long term emotional grief after an abortion is even worse. Even in the case of rape.

So you’re not pro-life. Thanks for admitting such.

Just my feeling...I don’t feel there is any other time when abortion should be legal, but, as I said, that’s MY feelings...

Call it what you will...

You believe the circumstances surrounding a person’s conception determine their worthiness to be born. That’s sick and evil. No different than Margaret Sanger herself. There is zero difference in the humanity of a child conceived in rape versus a child conceived in a loving marriage.

It’s not pro-life. That’s a fact. And you can defend your views because they’re baseless. They’re an evil lie.

So it is wrong to rip the arms and legs off a baby and let her bleed to death if the mother is unhappy to be pregnant but it is OK to rip the arms and legs off a baby and let her bleed to death if her parents are related or if her dad is a rapist? I'd venture that No medical procedure should have as its objective to kill someone. My opinion as to life of the mother is that in the relatively rare horrible, train wreck type situations the doctor's job is to save as many lives as possible. Example 1. PG woman has cancer. Dr says radiation may hurt your baby so let us rip his arms and legs off and let him bleed to death I'd say wrong. Example 2. Baby in Fallopian tube about to burst, mom and baby will die unless tube with baby is removed and baby will die. Remove tube with the purpose to save mom's life. I'd say very sad but justified.

An ectopic pregnancy is not a viable one and often the child is dead before the diagnosis is even made.

Pro lifers need to stop using this situation as an example because it is not an abortion. Let’s be medically factual in our discussion

It’s my opinion and that I am entitled to whether you agree or not...

To me, they are NOT baseless or evil, but also you have a right to YOUR opinion...

These rights are what I spent over two years in Vietnam for and what I spent 16 years in the military to support...

God bless the pro-life folks, but abortion is like cancer - praying may indeed stop it, but God also gave us hands and brains, so we employ surgeons and such to use their blessings received and given to God to do what they can.

Pro-lifers need to get out to the abortion clinics and offer these women emotional and spiritual support and see what they can do, as God’s hands, to help them see the light clearer and change their minds.

Your money will flow, if/as needed, as you come to know the person personally and their child is so close to you and still alive for the moment!

Get out there!

Or it aint going away!

Nor the depression afterward. You think women hate themselves today....?

A guy told me today that his girlfriend went in because she has an ectopic pregnancy and so the doctor said she needed to come here to take a pill.

What do you say to him? You don’t take a pill to kill the baby outside the womb, only inside. His girlfriend is lying to him.

Or her doctor is lying to her, them.

Wont go for a second opinion, like you would for any life or death operation, so he could be lying to me.

Lies, somewhere, to kill the baby. Even Judas didn’t to that.

Even that crime against humanity is forgiveable by Jesus, but contrition is a hard row to how...every day for the rest of your life you dred that decision....and that lie. Sad, but Mercy.

To the guy with the three “lines”....you too are welcomed to go out and be there for the women that don’t fall under your three lines! Laborers are needed!!!

It’s my opinion and that I am entitled to whether you agree or not...

You don't have a right to stay on this pro life forum with your pro death opinions. Keep it up and you'll find out.

These rights are what I spent over two years in Vietnam for and what I spent 16 years in the military to support...

Is your war service any more pertinent than mine? Many others here too. You are not unique and your opinions are not any more valuable than those who did not serve, for whatever reason. Murder a child because his father is a rapist? No thanks.
