Why do you say that is weak?
Protestants are always asking where the Immaculate Conception and the Assumption are in the Bible. Are those weak, too, in your judgment?
As is written.....”You are experts at setting aside the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition.” Mark 7:7-9
Necromancy is the word for praying/communicating with the dead.
Praying to the dead is forbidden in the Word....hence....necromancy. Deut 18:11 translates the Hebrew verb as "or a necromancer."
The Immaculate Conception and Assumption are no where found in the Bible so they aren't even weak. They didn't happen.
Even catholics admit the IC cannot be found in Scripture. That in itself should be enough to tell you the idea is without validity.
An appeal to the ECFs will show they are all over the board on the issue of the IC. So there is no uniform agreement. The old tennis rule comes into play....when in doubt, call it out.
Regarding the Assumption.....
Could God have done this? Yes, as we have evidence with Enoch and Elijah. However, we have no record of Mary's "assumption" in the Word. John, who was trusted with care of Mary did not record it in any of his writings.
The problem with the IC and the Assumption is that they move the catholic toward a worship of Mary and assigning her a position and power not accorded to her in Scripture.
