"I feel like saying something that may sound controversial or even heretical. But there is someone who knows that despite our differences we are one. It is he who is persecuting us. It is he that is persecuting Christians today; he who is anointing us with the blood of martyrdom, knows that Christians are disciples of Christ. That we are one, that we are brothers! He doesn't care if they are Evangelicals, Orthodox, Lutherans, Catholics or Apostolic. He doesn't care! They are Christians."
Thanks for the list and there were only two words that I had to look up.
“monstrance” & “hyperdulia”
As you noted, I’m sure it’s not a complete list.
Mouth agape, I re-read the thread with the knowledge that it was not a hoax/sarcasm but rather a real tirade that was saying Catholicism is the only Christianity, and all other Christian faiths are not only less but even condemn their followers to eternal damnation. That was the second stage ...shock.
Then the third stage kicked in - remembrance. I grew up Catholic as a child, and by Catholic I mean proper old school African Catholicism where the mass was even said in Latin (African catholics are mostly the 'modern variety,' where there is even dancing in the churces, but there are still vestiges of the old school version. Think indulgences, think scapular, think penance, think cilice, think the Pieta and the 15 prayers of St Bridget).
I remembered why I moved away from all of that ...the realization that when Christ was warning about Pharisees and Saducees, men who go around acting pious but instead are like white-washed tombs with the bones of dead men inside, when Christ warned about people following the traditions of men rather than the truth of God ...that all those warnings reminded me of what I was seeing, and I could not longer be part of it.
I have not seen such people in a long time, as many Catholics I meet are what I would call 'Sunday Christians' ...I have even seem some go to church wearing the same clothes they were wearing when they were out drinking and partying at the club the night before. This is the first time I am seeing the old school Catholics, and the beliefs you hear are very well established among the old school set ...around the world. Unfortunately for them it is a rapidly decreasing group.
It was interesting though reading this thread. It also gives a feel of how the Inquisition must have been.
Because the context was the Council and the return of the Armenians, Greeks, and Copts to unity with Rome. It was not a general statement about non-Christians.
Additionally, other, more recent and specific statements have been made regarding schismatics and non-Christians which are more relevant and directly applicable.
Maybe, but probably not, because the Church has said that clearly for a while now, long before Pope Francis.
I think the objection is to the way he said it, which sounds a lot like indifferentism -- "doesn't matter what kind of Christian you are, all denominations are equally true".
True followers of Christ identify as Christians as noted in Acts 11:26. They were not called catholics.
Act 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
Christians are called Christians and identify as Christians...I don't know what Catholics are...
“Most Catholics are poorly catechized and quite content to stay that way”.
Well I’m not poorly catechized and read the Bible many times in my prior life as a protestant. Many Catholic apologists are former protestants. And it’s this crowd that calls our Francis on his heretical statements. I certainly do.
Salvation is through the Catholic faith and any faith that came out of the reformation is a false religion and teaches heresy. I could care less what modernists popes have said in the last 50 years. I don’t not listen to heresy and error.
You may not listen to it but you sure just typed it. It shows you worship your denomination way more than Christ if you worship Him at all based on your statement.
Salvation is through faith in Christ....not a church and certainly not the Roman Catholic church in its current incarnation with it's un-Biblical emphasis on having to go through Mary for salvation in contradiction to the Word where Jesus notes He is the only way to salvation.
“...devil is after one thing ...Jesus Christ Himself in the Blessed Sacrament...”
Amen. This is correct.
I will add that the means that the evil one is using to accomplish the diabolical mission is that the devil has the priesthood under severe attack everywhere.
Elimating validly ordained and holy priests and the sacrament of Holy Orders and thereby all of the sacraments would accomplish the evil mission. Many have bought the lies of satan that the priesthood is not needed and the sacraments are unnecessary.
Evil is escalating in the world.
Pater noster ... libera nos a malo.
(malo was originally understood to refer to the evil one, not just generic evil)
I can't argue with that!
One doesn't a voting majority make.
Or are you saying that the College of Cardinals should hang themselves?
“is Satan behind ISIS killing of Christians who aren’t Catholics?”
ISIS is killing the Coptic Christians who are orthodox Christians and have valid sacraments and holy orders. They also have a valid eucharist. The devil in particular goes after those who have a valid eucharist.
The devil DOES care whether a Christian has valid sacraments and goes after those more severely, yes.
Why would we believe a ridiculous fable like that when we have the words of God tell us the actual truth???
Eph 1:18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
Eph 1:19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
Eph 1:20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
Eph 2:4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
Eph 2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
Eph 2:6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
Do you really think the nonsense you posted is going to deter us from knowing Jesus...Just because you and most Catholics do NOT know Jesus you think that no one else can know Jesus???
Joh 10:7 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.
Joh 10:8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.
Joh 10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
Joh 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
The Catholic religion is the thief...
Joh 10:14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
We Christians KNOW Jesus and he knows us...I can only pity you people who DON'T know Jesus but hope that some day, if you are good enough, will get to meet him...
I worship in and belong to the faith started 2,000 years ago by Christ himself. Whatever faith you belong to was started by a moral man. You have a Bible to tell you the life of Christ because of the Catholic Church.
If they don't get to know Jesus when they are alive, they're not going to like that meeting with him after they're dead...
Rev_20:13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
I can not imagine being foolish enough to trust in myself being good enough to get to heaven...If Jesus didn't do it for me, I don't stand a chance...
Rev_20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
Like we or God regards anything the Catholic religion invents for their religion...
Anyone who has faith in Christ is a Christian and a member of His family.
The Bible never says it is only through the Roman Catholic church that one has salvation....roman catholics may say that....but not the Word.
"......for whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16)".
The Bible came about as a result of the early Christian Church needing approved texts to use in their services. This was completed by the early Christian Church....not the Roman Catholic church we see today.
“This was completed by the early Christian Church....not the Roman Catholic church we see today”
The “early christian” church was the Catholic Church, one in the same and a Catholic pope canonized every book in the Bible and if you read the books of the New Testament you have indeed accepted the authority of the Catholic Church.
You are too funny...Telling ex-Catholics they can't be ex-Catholics...There's not an ex-Catholic out there anywhere who would agree with you...
So 'lapsed' Catholics who come to reject your religion, reject God, who die and go to hell are still Catholics, eh???
(he was a bad one, but he's still one of ours, ugh!)
I haven't listened to popes since 1970 either. As an ex catholic myself, I think exactly the opposite you do. I think the RCC is a false religion, and teaches heresy. Look, you can believe whatever you like. That's on you. I believe salvation is by faith in Christ, not in any church, but you do what you think it right, and I will do what I think is right. When Gabriel returns to blow his horn, then we will all know for sure. I am happy to wait till then. USAF, Senior NCO, Retired.
