Just more indoctrination ...
Rome has no "authority"
We have great commentary, traditions, the bible, and the catechism to answer questions in regards to matters of faith.
Could you link us the the infallible commentary written by the magisterium? (Pass I think not because your "teaching arm" has never written an INFALLIBLE commentary of the entire bible )..any commentatary you may have is simply the fallible work of men
If it is it's a slap in the face of Christ. No wonder they can't be assured of salvation. We've got good news Catholics. CHRIST PAID THE FULL PRICE!! YOUR SINS HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN!
: Please read the text, you will see that the discourse on "the bread" was past.. . Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, Does this offend you?
62 Then what if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before!
63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to youthey are full of the Spirit[e] and life. 64 Yet there are some of you who do not believe. For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him.
65 He went on to say, This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them.
66 From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.
They walked away , but the issue was not "eating" his flesh..it was His claim of deity >
They did not like hearing that salvation had to be given them and much like the manna in the desert, it was totally a gift of the Father. They could not do anything on their own to earn it, they only had access to it by faith ( remember the Jews could only gather enough manna for the one days meals, and for 2 days on the day before the sabbath, they had to have faith in God to provide what was necessary for their life) . The idea that salvation was all of God and not found in law keeping was blasphemy to the law oriented Jews that felt their salvation was based on their will, their law keeping etc
To make an attempt to make this a teaching on the Lords supper misses the mark. Christ was still alive and in His flesh and he was, by your reckoning , telling them to do something they could not do because the Lords Supper had not been instituted yet,it is a spiritual eating and drinking that is here spoken of, not a sacramental.
This was clearly a metaphorical teaching to Jews looking for a Physical savior like Moses, and for physical bread to meet their physical hunger. Jesus always used symbols that the Jews understood to make spiritual points.
Notice Peters response when asked if he wanted to leave too...
68 Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.
Peter did not ask for that BREAD.. ... He said Jesus had the WORDS of eternal life.. not the bread.. he affirmed the deity of Christ
Great. I am not going to discuss the text any longer as I disagree with you and you disagree with me. It reassures me that on a percentage basis very few people in history would agree with you and many more would agree with me. It is especially reassuring that apostolic successors agree with me.
The Serapeum which was burned about 391 AD by Pope Theophiluss decree.
You did spell his name correct. For the record, though, he was a Pope in the Coptic Church of Alexandria.
Reading comprehension a bit LOW today?
Is this the ONLY tune you play?
I guess he hopes that Lurkers will be taken by it and rush to the nearest Catholic church and throw themselves on the altar.
Are you going to PRAY this to Mary?
Says WHO?
Surely not the Lord of the Universe!
Heck; you probably don't 'believe' the things your CURRENT pope says!
So; you do NOT believe what is CLEARLY written in Scripture.
Nope....no Christian has ever made that claim. Maybe that's how catholics like to spin it, but the true Christian is a follower of Christ and follows and does what He says.
I'm not sure what you mean about "never have to worry about anything", but the follower of Christ, as they have been sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise is secure in their eternal destination.
The believer has been adopted into God's family. An understanding of adoption in the first century as used by Paul in Romans really brings to clarity the position of the believer in Christ.
Will the believer still sin? Sadly, yes we will. But we have forgiveness through Christ as He has nailed our sins to the cross. Do we confess our sins? Yes we do and He is faithful and just to forgive us as John notes.....and we can go straight to the throne of grace for that forgiveness.
As followers of Christ we are to produce fruit. That is clear in the NT. No Christian denies that. What is denied is that the fruit we produce saves us. No. What saves us is faith in Christ.
As noted in John 3:16.....whosoever believes in Him shall never perish, but have eternal life.
1 Corinthians 12:27
Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.
I've heard that Scripture tends to interpret itself.
Sorry; but it's YOUR strawman that has been boiled in the pot.
So; we've got two disagreeable persons here.
So what DOES the text say?
