John 14:6 Jesus said to him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 17:17 Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.
This is untrue. The Bible is not God. The Bible is a collection of writings, most of which were written by prophets of God.
So, you don't expect God to tell the truth then?

I didn't see this posted elsewhere on the thread, but it is really pathetic:
(I feel certain it was transcribed, but I didn't feel like reading through 500+ posts.

>>Reverend Jim Jones claimed guidance from the Holy Spirit when he had hundreds killed, and instructed parents to poison their children.<<
Those people relied on Jim Jones. Catholics rely on a group of men they call the magisterium and one guy they claim can make infallible statements. What's the difference?
>>The Catholic approach is to have a body of scholars study the scriptures<<
Please show where the Catholic Church has "scholars study the scriptures" and give interpretation. Other than a few versus here and there mistranslated to support a false religion they have done none of what you say.

The claim of inerrancy is the sound of a mind snapping shut. The Catholic Church claims the Scriptures are inerrant. If you are claiming to be a Catholic, you aren't helping the Catholics on FR at all, not one bit, with any posts like this.
To: Springfield Reformer
I am in agreement with your description.
You describe a process of investigation to interpret the deeper spiritual purpose of text, that on its literal surface seems problematic. To do that, you have to be open to the possibility that you do not already have a lock on ultimate truth (which is a common situation among fundamentalists).
I use the example of Biblical conflicts, Old Testament vs. New Testament and so on; simply to highlight the problems of such an approach to scripture, not to try to invalidate scripture.

Appreciate your concern but all is well in Catholic land. We have Jesus with us until the end of time. If his mother was with him for 30 years I’m sure he doesn’t mind her tagging along. She keeps saying “Do what he tells you”. He likes that.

This thing looks to me like the others used to give the individuals a "feel good" sense they aren't getting from the Lord. Technically it is a "item" they believe protects them so therefore it's a pagan practice...certainly not Christian.
Looks like there's multiple choice as st. jude and st joseph and others...which of course believing these have any power is an affront to Christianity. ..and a pagan practice.

I think that is a natural outcome of struggling to reconcile all the great mass of scripture against a consistent doctrine and moral standard.
No struggle.
Each Roman Catholic has his understanding of church doctrine and moral standard. Each Christian believer in Jesus Christ alone as Lord and Savior has the consistent doctrine and moral standard demonstrated by Jesus Christ, the Word of God made flesh.
The Holy Bible is the most reliable written record of the involvement of Lord Jesus Christ with sinful, fallen mankind and how God has effected His plan of Salvation which was, is, and will be in place since before the founding of the world, according to the Holy Bible.
There's is no struggle on the part of the faithful believer in Lord Jesus Christ alone. Hear...believe...and do.

Hey - Make that 33 years that Mary was with Jesus. Beginning to death, I don’t know about after Resurrection until Ascension but John was taking care of her so I think they both were around.

This is untrue. The Bible is not God. The Bible is a collection of writings, most of which were written by prophets of God. The entire Bible is the work of Prophets ...not some of them
It is not the complete collection of all the writings of the prophets.
It is the complete writings of the prophets of God. The only books not written by prophets are the Apocryphal books .
The Bible is not perfect because man put the words to paper and translated it, and man is not perfect.
Isaiah 40:8 The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever."
God is capable of protecting His word...or He is not God at all

>>So what? Why does it bother you? You aren't a Catholic.p Love is not allowing others to follow the wrong path and scripture tells us to correct.
James 5:20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.
The idolatry of Catholicism and Mary worship is sin.

Reverend Jim Jones claimed guidance from the Holy Spirit when he had hundreds killed, and instructed parents to poison their children. So what are you saying then? That relying on the Holy Spirit leads to that sort of behavior?
What does the Catholic church rely on? What did IT rely on during the Inquisition?

She keeps saying Do what he tells you. He likes that. Isn't Jesus telling us to obey God's commandments enough for Catholics?
Won't they listen unless Mary tells them?
Does she have more credibility than Jesus?
Why do y'all need to hear it from Mary to listen?

Jesus Christ died and has risen from the dead, ascended to Heaven and has assigned seating at the right hand of God the Father.
Mary died. She waits the next resurrection of the dead as do all in Christ who have died since Jesus' resurrection. There is NO mother of God mentioned anywhere in the Holy Bible, the Scriptures Christians who are not Catholics use in the determination of what is true and what is not.
Your rosy depiction of life on earth in Catholicland is at variance with most if not all reports received in recent decades. Perhaps things go well in your RC congregation, though.

What are you proposing then, censorship? And specifically, pro-Catholic censorship?Equity would be nice. At a minimum, stop the anti-Catholic censorship.
This is my last post on the subject, please don't ping me to this topic unless and until the system is fixed.
