It’s because the Church is the whore of Babylon. Just ask any protestant.

Orthodox: Good Friday is the first Friday after the start of passover
Protestant/Roman Catholic: Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon after the first day of spring.
In a nutshell.
Sometimes Easter/Pascha is the same East/West.
I am Protestant, and my wife is Orthodox Christian.

Any Christian in any church who observes Easter is acknowledging and obeying the authority of the Roman Emperor Constantine to establish an observance that is NOT in the Bible.
But that doesn’t stop people from thinking it is in the Bible and that they must observe it today.
If Obama moved Xmas to Kwanzaa and imposed the death penalty for still observing Xmas would you start observing Kwanzaa?

I don’t usually pay attention to these things, but is it by chance a full moon tonight?

As an Orthodox Christian I have heard about the date of Passover accounting for the difference, but it is 100% due to the Orthodox setting future dates of Pascha (Easter) when the Julian calendar was used. Those selected dates will be up in around 75 years (a blink of an eye in Orthodox terms) so maybe we will be harmonized with the West then.
Very good explanation is at the followoing (sorry, but I am html challenged): http://blogs.ancientfaith.com/roadsfromemmaus/2015/03/31/no-pascha-does-not-have-to-be-after-passover-and-other-orthodox-urban-legends/
Happy Pascha, everyone!

A lot of people think Europe followed the Gregorian calendar as soon as it was proclaimed in 1582.
1700: Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Denmark (+iceland/norway)
1752: Great Britain (including their American possessions)
1753: Sweden

The Orthodox holiday is usually later than the Western one for one and only one reason: the Julian Calendar is now thirteen days behind the Gregorian (it was originally ten days behind), so the dates for the "paschal full moon" (from 3/21 to 4/18) are on the Julian Calendar 4/3 to 5/1. Next year the Western observance will be 3/27 (the sunday following Purim, not Pesach) while the Julian date will be 5/1 (the day after Pesach ends).
And the Orthodox "pascha" doesn't always come after all the days of Pesach. Sometimes it falls on the sixth day.
