The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.
Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you.
As the Father has sent me, so I send you.”
And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them,
“Receive the Holy Spirit.
Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them,
and whose sins you retain are retained.”

From the Gospel reading (John 20:20-23).

An ecclesiastical gift to the church..The right to excommunicate from the church

Could you please show us where the apostles ever "heard' confessions"

Who did Jesus say to go to for mercy?

Luke 11:And forgive us our sins, for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation.

Heb 4;15For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. 16Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

There was no confession to a "priest"in Romanism until 1215
