>> Part of it is also the shifts in cultural and social sensibilities such that what constituted in the past an acceptable way of showing mercy, now, given our contemporary mindset, may not be any more viewed as that.<<
>>He said that the past approach in Catholic schools and other institutions had often been to dictate rules and tell people that they were for your own good. <<
>> Now with our growing sensibilities, growth in psychology, we realise that some of them were not as merciful, he said.<<
And people say we don’t need an Inquisition anymore...
sensibilities? maybe ok
kind pastoral care? sure
change Biblical teaching? no way!
(that, Cardinal, is above your Pay Scale)
It looks like the “Francis Effect” has rubbed off on Tagle with all the “mercy” talk and with no mention of “charity”.
Harmful? Telling a person that God disapproves of of his/her choices is harmful?
TRANSLATION - they have money and they won’t give it to us if we tell them they’re wrong.
They know more than Almighty God and His Word, you see......
< / sarcasm >
"If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them."
Leviticus 20:13
"For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done."
Romans 1: 26-28
Ok, the title says Church, the Cardinal says clergy. Two different things
The Church, Catechism and, which gains it’s philosophy from biblical teaching, of course, is well on record on this. Treat homosexuals as Jesus treated them. With love but admonition for homosexual BEHAVIOR
The clergy are people. The church has no problem on homosexuality
Also. Anyone wishing to flame me see fr groeschel’s ministry , courage, which welcomes celibate homosexuals and assists them in their suffering. They do not practice homosexual behavior. Or it is not condoned anyway
That’s the true church
Like Jesus
Guess he forgot the Gospel starts with “Repent!”, not “You’re OK & I’m OK”...
What article are you reading?
[Tagle] said the Church had to learn lessons from changing social attitudes and a greater understanding of psychology and recognise the wounds its judgmental approach had caused in the past
From the catechism
2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity,141 tradition has always declared that “homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered.”142 They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.
2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God’s will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord’s Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.
2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.
I don’t see anywhere in the Cardinal’s words where he is endorsing homosexual activity, only that we should be more merciful in our approach.
I’m reading the article that says the following, which one are you reading?:
Philippines top prelate decried the clergys harmful treatment of lesbian
You don't call an intrinsic disorder a problem?
Unfortunately, non-Catholics don’t seem to have clue between individual utterances of prelates ad Popes and Catholic Dogma. The Catechism still stands.
What’s with the “hook ‘em horns” gestures? That is NOT a natural gesture; you need to consciously force down your two middle fingers.
He certainly isn't condemning it, is he?
He said that the past approach in Catholic schools and other institutions had often been to dictate rules and tell people that they were for your own good.
I posted the catechetical teaching. The church has no problem vid a bus what the cardinal is talking about
Th church states that not only is homosexual behavior intrinsically disordered but tgat it is also an offense against a commandment, which is a very high offense
Homosexual tendencies are to be treated with compassion and with regard to counseling the homosexual out of the behavior one way or the other
It’s as much of a problem as any violation of a commandment
So the church does not need change on this, as the title states. The cardinal criticized people, clergy, not the church
Two different entities
Read the catechetical reference or unless you are fearful of it
But to say the church hasn’t a problem I am say that
