My dear husband fell, fracturing his femur and tearing a rotator cuff in his shoulder. He does not have osteoporosis; it was just a freaky accident.
He is a big man -- not fat, just big -- and he landed on his hip and his elbow on a neighbor's blacktop driveway. As is so typical of him, he was there to help the neighbor with a task.
He is in very good health -- but not too graceful -- so I am confident that he will heal, but, right now he is in a great deal of pain in the leg and from swelling in the arm. He was able to use the arm right after the fall, but now he cannot.
Also, he is feeling quite glum about the fact that he will not be in full working order for several weeks. We are retired, so, fortunately, he is not missing paid work, but he is always very busy around the house and in our rather large yard. It is bothering him for me to need to take up the slack. Besides, sitting for too long gives him the heebie-jeebies.
I ask for FR Prayer Warriors to pray for relief from his pain and for his spirits to be lifted.
Prayers for your husband’s recovery. Never fear, God is near!
Prayers for his full and speedy recovery.
The bearded yoga guy is Willie Robinson from Duck Dyansty, with his wife Korie. They are always playing with the edge between “rednecks” and “educated millionaires” on that show.
Well, please take care Big Red and please keep the Faith! It works! On week 5 of my second hip replacement as we speak! Your big guy will get better, just tie him down :)
Thank you.
Thanks. I will look into it.
Tie him down, I will. :)
Prayers for your full recovery.
Thank you.
He will have to ice, this way you stay dry and don’t have to mess with ice bags and the securing of same.
Hail Mary’s for husband.
Well, that’s awfully nice of you. Let’s all get better! Men just seem to have a worse go of it. Prayers for the two of you!
Prayers being said for your husband for healing and for his recovery to go well and be as rapid as possible. Also prayers that our Lord comfort him - that he be granted peace as he goes through the healing process. Amen.
GOOD NEWS UPDATE:
On Sunday, they were thinking that he had torn his rotator cuff because he was in such pain with his upper arm and could not even lift his left arm.
For me, the odd thing had been that he was able to use the left arm immediately following the fall. There was some discomfort, but he could do it. By the next day, the arm was giving him great pain and had become useless.
Mystery solved — apparently: He is on warfarin because he experienced severe DVT following the breaking of his hip in 2005. The docs now think that the warfarin caused him to leak a lot of fluid into the tissue surrounding the fracture site and into his upper arm and elbow because of contusions there. Swelling and resultant pain.
When I visited Monday afternoon, they were pretty sure that they had the explanation, although they cautioned that there was yet some imaging that had not been analyzed. So — fingers crossed — no rotator cuff damage. His swelling had been reduced a little compared to Sunday, when I could make out no bones in his hand or in his elbow.
Looks like Tuesday is the day they send him to the rehab center. And, fortunately, it will be the one he was in after his hip replacement. It is not far from where we live, and we liked the staff there.
So, I thank you, dear FReepers, for your wonderful prayers and for your words of encouragement.
Thank you. Please see my update at 114. God is good.
Prayers up.
You’re right, they do seem to have a worse go of it. I wonder if it’s because they deal with all of the little pain incidents better — stubbing a toe, breaking a fingernail —so they don’t get used to working through pain on a regular basis.
I have tried in the past to teach him how to use breathing to help in dealing with pain. Yesterday, he seemed a little more receptive to the idea.
Posted an update, BTW, at 114. Glory to God!
Thank you.
Well, how about that!!? Take the good news any way it comes! He’ll snap out of this in no time. Sounds like he knows what to expect with the hip/pelvis rehab. Sucks but doable! All the best Bigg Red!
We praise Thee, O LOrd, and we adore Thee.
Please, ease the pain of Thy servant.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, amen.
