How many people could even read their native language then?

Why was Tyndale so passionate about bringing it to the people in their language if most of his countrymen couldn’t even read?

During the Renaissance it was between 10 to 40 % in some areas 60%

In England in the 1650 it was 53% ... that is why the Protestants starting Sunday School to help to teach them to read the bible

Look now? How many "literate" RC's read their bible ?? Even the "practicing" usually only hear it read to them ...in their native language
